"Georgia Electrical Techs was efficient and respectful. Adam helped us find a creative solution to run electric into our backyard for a hot tub while also planning for future electrical needs. The staff offered to wear masks while in our home even though my partner and I weren't even in the same space as them while they were working."

"Hi-Five Electric was a pleasure to work with. They wired my entire basement. They put outlets and installed light fixtures through. The whole crew was professional. Arrived timely each day and cleaned up afterwards when done. Will surely recommend them for any electrical needs."

"Owen came out quickly and gave us a bid. He listened to the problem we faced and provided a knowledgeable recommendation with a reasonable price. We were easily able to schedule the work via email. His crew came out fully prepared to do the work and were personable, polite and efficient. Owen himself was available on site or via text during the work. The crew got the work done, communicated well and answered the many questions I had. I would totally recommend Owen and his team. I like the solution they came up with and the way they executed the work."

"We moved into a new (to us) house. After a few months, both the indoor panel and the main disconnect panel blew and scorched themselves. We were powerless. Trey Cannon was easy to communicate with. He was happy to respond to text messages with photos to help diagnose things and set up the supplies they'd need as soon as possible. Trace and Ryan were out the next day to help install the new panels and bring the house up to code so it could immediately pass inspection and let us bring electricity back into the house. I couldn't be happier with Cannon Electric. The experience has me looking around my house for other electrical work that I can hire them for. Long story short: Good work by good people at a good price."

"He arrived on time and explained there would be some Sheetrock damage since he was going to have to run the wires through the ceiling which was to be expected. He did a fine job doing the installation and finished the job within the two hour period (the amount of time I had purchased). The price was right but I felt a bit like I got what I paid for. I had two main problems with the service: The first was when I asked if he could do some other work since he finished the job in less than the two hour allotted period, he said no. The second, and bigger issue I had was that he did not clean up after himself! Even with time to spare and knowing I was caring for a newborn and therefore had my hands full he didn't even discard the extra pieces of wire, let along clean up any of the Sheetrock dust that landed in the drop cloths and on the floor. I had two people over to my home that day who both independently commented that it looked like the contractor was mid-project. Both we're as shocked as I was that he left the project in that type of "finished" state. I certainly didn't expect he would dust and mop my house, but I don't think it was unreasonable to think he would have offered to discard the large pieces of trash and/or empty the captured dust into a trash can (which was next to his truck in the driveway). In fact, when I asked him what the best way was to clean it all up he said, "I don't have anywhere to put it." And left it at that. I think how a job is finished is as important as how it begins and although he did a fine job on the actual installation with minimal damage, I don't think I'll be using this company again knowing I'll be responsible for taking care of the aftermath.

"Perfect!!! They removed an old satellite dish, all of the wiring, and went over and above and removed old landline and cable wiring. They also patched the roof where the satellite was located."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Bishop, GA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
