"Would definitely recommend Chris Gregory - Owner at Idaho Star Electrical. Chris explained to us his process and cost up front and easy to negotiate on doing the full work or up to a certain point. We can do drywall and can easily put the bathroom fan into place, Chris had no problems with this. He kept us updated throughout the whole process, and took the time to explain any findings or possible changes, as he wanted to be sure we were on board with everything. Very easy to talk to and knowledgeable in what he does. Our home is older and he was familiar with the electrical work done in the past. He cleaned up his work area and again made sure we were satisfied with everything before he left."

"We hired them to help troubleshoot some electrical issues around the house. They were able to replace several outlets and resolved the issue quickly. They were also able to give us a quote on a solar generator package to pair with our existing panels. Very knowledgeable staff, great customer service and excellent products and services."

"he was great and got the electricity connected within a reasonable time frame. He and Charlie both were very comunicative. He was going to provide a quote for some future work and provide a receipt for the work he did. So, far I've not received either. I talked to Charlie about it, but so far I've not received either."

"100% the best electricians in Boise. They did a 200A upgrade and a generator inlet on my house. Perfect work, on time, friendly, and most importantly the best price in Boise. Definitely recommend them and will call them back if I need more. They did a quote and stood by it the whole time. No “nickel and dime” with these guys. Call them!!!"

"I bought an older house and was wanting to have some electrical work done. So I gave CJ electric a phone call and right out of the gate was very pleased with the customer service and effort put into even just a quote. I was helped with any question I asked, above and beyond. The cost was very affordable and the entire house looked great and worked great when CJ electric finished up. From start to finish they have been great to work with. No mess and no hassle. Highly recommend them."

"I have used the services of CES for several electrical needs Iâ ve had. I have always felt he was fair, honest and professional. One area that means a lot to me is that Charlie takes the time to explain what needs to be done so that even I can understand. One of the services CES has performed for me was to run electricity and tv wiring to my flat screen wall mounted tv so that no visible wires are showing. My wife was very impressed by what a nice job he did. Recently when I installed a mini-split unit in our second home in Cascade, CES did all electrical work that was needed to get the unit up and running. To say that I am a happy customer is an understatement. To find someone these days who has his work ethic, skill and honesty is a very rare thing. I recommend this company whatever electric needs you have."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Boise, ID

A whole-house surge protector blocks voltage spikes from lightning, grid issues, or even large appliances before they can fry your wiring or electronics. By diverting excess current at the main panel, it shields everything from your HVAC to your phone chargers and can extend the life of pricey appliances. Homeowners in storm-prone regions or with older panels see the biggest payoff, but any home that relies on sensitive electronics benefits.

Most whole-house surge protectors work for two to three years. Low-level spikes—too small to notice—hit your panel every day and slowly wear down the internal components. Once the unit’s capacity is depleted, it can’t prevent a larger surge, so plan to replace it on schedule (or sooner if a major lightning strike occurs) to keep your electronics and HVAC equipment safe.

A surge protector begins guarding your circuits the moment an electrician snaps it into place. Whether the spike originates from a nearby lightning strike or your fridge kicking on, the protector shunts the extra current to ground before it can reach outlets or hard-wired systems, such as your AC. That instant response is why a small upfront cost can save thousands in appliance repairs.

The unit mounts on or next to your main electrical panel. Type 1 models sit on the supply side, catching outside spikes before they hit the breaker. Type 2 devices snap inside the panel and tame surges that start within the house. Either way, placement at the panel lets the protector guard every circuit at once.

Plan to swap the device every three to five years—or sooner if you upgrade your panel, add high-demand appliances, or notice flickering lights and tripped breakers. Relying on a maze of power strips is another red flag that your current setup isn’t keeping up. Replacing the surge protector at these milestones keeps your electrical system on safe footing.
