"It has been our pleasure to have Tillman Carpentry complete our privacy fence project! Zachery helped us work within our budget, providing a very fair quote. Their great, hard-working crew did a top notch job, completing our 80' fence in one day. We are very pleased with the end result and highly recommend Tillman Carpentry!"

"Within days of purchasing the deal, I received the instructions and paper to draw my table templates. The table has 2 drop leaves plus 2 additional leaves that can be inserted in the table. The templates were pretty easy to draw. The finished pads were delivered in a very short time. They fit the table and each of the 4 leaves perfectly and magnetically lock together to keep them aligned when on the table. A year and a half later, I still love these pads."

"As our house was in desperate need of a paint uplift, I went to Angie’s List and saw Heniff Painting and Remodeling was at the top of the list for exterior painting in our area. I requested his service and Mr. Timothy Heniff responded the same day. He came out the next day, told us what he could do and gave us a reasonable price! After looking at a few other companies, we decided that Tim would be the best choice for a number of reasons – he had numerous fantastic reviews on Angie’s List, a great personality and his price was fair. He gave us a starting date, showed up and began work as promised. We have a huge house constructed of white brick with a white brick chimney, white siding and many windows. He power washed the whole house and the white brick looked brand new. He took his time in painting the house white, one side at a time, which included painting the windows, door trimming and exterior surfaces of two doors in the contrasting color. Finally, he replaced two wood floorboards on the deck and then painted it in the matching contrast color. As the contrast color looked so pretty, we asked him to paint the flower planters in the same color which he did for a small extra charge. Tim is such a good professional painter that you can tell he takes pride in his work and I must add that there were no paint drippings or splatters any where around or on the house! We just want to say that Tim did an awesome job on our house and deck! Our neighbors are constantly commenting on how beautiful our home is now. You can be assured that any future paint jobs we may have will be assigned to Heniff Painting and Remodeling! If he has other jobs ahead of our request, we will just wait. His service is worth waiting for!!!!!!!!! We are totally pleased with his work!!!!!!!!!"

"The job started with us needing someone to replace some siding on the chimney due to water leaking in behind the siding causing
deterioration and paint peeling off of the siding. The job was relatively small and consequently we contacted several qualified contractors and they were not willing to even come and scope out our job. Somebody referred us to Maximus and when I called and
talked to Eric, he was willing to take on the project even though it was relatively small. When he showed up to evaluate the situation and give an estimate for the job, he discovered that the cause of our problem was that we had a concrete cap around our chimneys that had cracked and separated and allowing water to seep in and deteriorate the trim boards and siding. We agreed to have him replace the siding and trim boards and to replace the chimney chase because his quote was very reasonable. During this same visit, I was asking him about the condition of the shingles on the roof because they had been in place for 20 years. They were showing signs of wear but he said they could last another year or two. I inquired as to the cost of him roofing the house too while he was doing the other jobs for us and that quote seemed very reasonable so I agreed to that job as well. He finished the total project today in less than a week and everything looks really good. He maintained the schedule that he promised and he was on site nearly every day to make sure things were running smooth. We will definitely call Maximus again when the need arises.

"I am very pleased with my new floors. I bought my wood and baseboards separately and solicited several bids for installation and removal of the existing carpet. Mike's estimate was by FAR the most reasonable. We were in contact several times through Angie's list and he came out and said the initial quote he gave me was good (extra supplies and dumping the carpet etc. was extra as costs incurred).
Once we were able to coordinate schedules (my schedule was nuts and it this was a big job so he needed to block off a week for his crew). Ernesto and Gabriel showed up on time and after going over the details I let them get to work (I moved out of my place for the week). I checked in a couple of times to see the progress and the speed at which they got things done was remarkable. By Tuesday, the carpet was all gone and part of the floor was installed!
Mike contacted me by phone on Wednesday and said everything would be done by Friday at 4:00 p.m. (our originally agreed upon time). When I finally came home, not only did they do a nice job with the floors, but they did a nice job cleaning up. There wasn't nearly as much dust as I expected and they put the furniture back in the right spots.
After my initial inspection, I noticed a couple of things that needed to be finished and went over them with Mike during his walk through the following day (there were some job debris left over and a couple spots that needed painting/patching. Nothing serious, but Mike agreed to fix everything for no charge. We scheduled a time for a worker to come out and I even added a couple of other jobs at a discounted price (some additional drywall work and window caulking). My only disappointment is that I have to wait an extra week for the final repairs. This is mostly my fault for adding on extra jobs that will require a whole day at my house, otherwise they'd been done already.
Since I've hired Mike's crew again, you know I like them and I will use them in the future. The prices are excellent and his crew is very professional.

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Boone-grove, IN

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
