"This is my second time using Ricky's services. We communicated via text to arrange appointment time. He provided 4 hour window for service and text his arrival time 30 min before. Once arriving he and I walked the lawn & he listened to my concerns & desires for improvement. He took time to educate me on the condition of my lawn and ways to improve. His improvement suggestions were all DIY options. At the end he mentioned he does offer extended services for lawn care beyond aeration if I want to consider outsourcing. At no point in the conversation did I feel pressured or bamboozled. Ricky provides a professional and courteous experience. I recommend Ricky for lawn services. You will get a personal touch for a reasonable price."

"They were very responsive and did great work. Price was comparable to other drainage companies. Left the lawn looking very good and put grass back over where they had to dig. I would definitely hire them again for any needs with drainage."

"We expected to see him in about 4 weeks. He called notifying us of a break in his schedule. One of his crews came out the next week and completed the work in two days. His crew was exceptionally conscientious, very careful and considerate and we could not be more pleased with their work product."

"The 9 inches of rain from remnants of Patricia gave it the ultimate test and it performed beautifully. Whereas minor rain events caused ponding before, with the new drainage there was barely any standing water even as these heavy rains were ongoing.
The sprinkler system was trickier to fix than anticipated since a previous contractor had accidentally cut the electric lines between the nozzles. Rob and his crew were able to get everything back into working order.
Tree trimming also was handled professionally, as Rob carefully identified which branches needed trimming so as to let in sufficient light for the grass while maintaining the health of the tree.

"This job was remarkable in part because I have a 70 ft. tall Oak that is on the tree registry and taking care of it is of the utmost importance because of its majesty and the fact that it stretches over about 5 buildings including some of my neighbors. I have worked with many a good arborist these are my favorite.

"I will start by saying I am very particular and probably a little hard to work for. I have used HRR Services for several projects, this being the most expensive and largest. Past work has always been done by Phillip himself, with him bringing in 1 or 2 assistants as needed, and overall I have been very pleased. I went into this project with total confidence that he would do a good job.
Demolition took less time than anticipated, Phillip was then ready to start the project immediately. I made some quick decisions on doing the deck based on existing footprint with minor modifications on where the upper and lower level split would be and where the deck would end. I added in painting siding adjacent to the new deck at Phillips suggestion. We discussed where the downspout extensions needed to go, that was an add- on but that price was not discussed. We decided to wait to finalize lighting and any additional railings til the deck was done.
- Phillip was very prompt in meeting with me to review the job. It was decided his crew would do demolition, he would then give me some time to make a final decision on the specifics of the replacement deck as I needed to adjust my original plan due to price quotes I was receiving. I received a verbal estimate based on anticipated dimensions.
When the deck surface was completed, we met to discuss railings and lighting. I had an existing electrical line with 1 outlet and 1 switch, wiring already running to a second outlet area with cover plate only. Phillip did the electrical work himself: added a light fixture, 2 electric outlets. This work appears professional, grey conduit to the floodlight along the outer side of the fireplace/away from the deck, matching the brick. Everything is cleanly secured, nicely done and in good working order.
We discussed railings, but nothing was in writing. This is where the communication broke down. I said I did not want a heavy look: options were discussed and I agreed to a top rail 1x4(mistake). I do NOT have any deck building experience and had no idea this would not be a good option. We also discussed caps for the posts. When the railings were done I felt something was off but did not say anything as the caps still were not there. Phillip added the caps when he did the electrical work. When I returned home after that was completed it looked worse! There was a corner post off square that I had not noticed. The cap on top made it stand out as an obvious mistake. The balance was off. The railing looked cheap and flimsy.
I had to go online and research how to build deck railings. There was no vertical trim board under the horizontal top rail, and everything I found indicated the top rail should be a 2x6 for the type of rail I was having made.
The top rail was replaced and trim board added today. The off square post was corrected as much as possible. That corner of the deck itself is not at a 90 degree angle. The railing looks better but it still is not quite right. The carpenter tried to trim the top rail corners to make it look better but something is still a little off. I hope that when it is all stained a uniform color it will blend and look more cohesive.
What I learned from this experience is as follows:
1. Always have everything in writing before a job starts: diagrams, photos, dimensions, product, pricing. Some of the 'add on' items pricing was not discussed til end invoice was presented. There was no invoice or written agreement prior to project near completion.
2. Ask how much experience the crew being used has in your particular project, and get references for that type of work even if you trust the contractor.
3. Be present each and every day a some point when work is in progress.
I would still consider HRR Services for handyman type repairs. I think this was a job they were not experienced enough to do as well as it could and should have been done. The actual deck looks good, but following the prior 'footprint' was taken too literally. A call to me regarding some minor adjustments would have prevented the off square corner issues. Little extras were done and I really appreciate that. When I mentioned the printing on the deck boards was something I was going to have to sand out, Phillip immediately had one of the guys taking care of it. Phillip added in extra siding painting on an adjacent area and did some
roof cleaning in the areas they were painting without additional charges. Site clean up was excellent. Crew was respectful and pleasant.
