"The selection of carpets (at the store location in Fairfax) was excellent. No hard sell just plenty of knowledgeable answers to questions posed. The measuring and installation were done in a very reasonable amount of time. Workmanship excellent. Don't go anywhere else."

"We met Randy at the Crofton showroom. He quickly found that we had found them on Angie's list and were making our first ever carpet purchase. He gave us what he called "Carpet 101" so that we had the knowledge to make an intelligent carpet purchase. Over the next 3-4 days, we decided on a great carpet that fit our budget. Randy worked hard to help us find the right carpet for our home and gave us a great price. Workers showed up on time the morning of install and were done by early afternoon. We've had the carpet now for 3 weeks and are very happy with the purchase."

"Freddy and his assistant arrived on time. They wore masks, gloves, and foot covers. Freddy measured my rooms and quoted me a number less that the quoted by phone. They got to work right away. I tired to stay out of they way to let them work. As a whole the carpet came out very well. However, our bedroom high traffic area was not as good. Am planning on have my area rugs cleaned later. The carpet dried in 24 hours and there were no strong smells."

"When we decided to work with Petersen's to renovate our Rec Room they said that the job wouldn't be finished until we said "we loved it" and they really stuck by that. The removal of the old carpet, hardwood and ceramic tile went very smoothly despite needing to remove only two rows of tile and preserve the other four (we were making the area smaller). Teresa Schuyler did a great job spec'ing the right pad for our basement rec room as well as helping us find a carpet that complimented an adjacent room (color wise) and met our needs from a quality and price perspective. The carpet was installed on-time however I was out of town at the time of installation and when I got back was able to verify that the shade of color was not consistent with the sample we chose from. In my experience, many providers at this point in the process would have told us that was a risk we took and that dye lots are not guaranteed, afterall, it was already installed. But Petersen's stepped completely up in the service of us as customers. Teresa (our rep) spoke to the manufacturer and facilitated a review of the installed carpet and negotiated on our behalf for a re-install. When the new carpet arrived at the warehouse Teresa, as well as Petersen's staff, inspected the carpet and determined it was not up to their quality standards. Teresa then sat down with us and really went the distance to find an alternate manufacturer that would meet our needs. A couple of short weeks later the old carpet was removed and the new one installed and WE LOVE IT. As a beautiful bow on top of the whole process Petersen's discounted our total project price as a gift and acknowledgement that although the end result was as promised the process was not what they make their reputation on. We have additional renovations coming up this year and next and we will absolutely return to Petersen's for all of our flooring needs."

"Sterling Carpet did an excellent job on all of the activities listed. Kevin came out and looked over the projects and then provided me with an estimate. We set up a time-frame for the project and then basically my wife and I went on vacation for a week while the folks from Sterling Carpet came in and completed all of the requested activities.
When we returned home we were amazed at the difference the new flooring made in our home - it felt like we walked into a new home.
We did notice one problem - one section of the new flooring was a bit darker than the rest of the floor. I called Kevin and explained my concerns. He said that he would be over to take a look at them later that day. He came over that afternoon - this is where I was really pleasantly surprised - he agreed that the section was not right and told me that he'd have it redone as soon as we could schedule it.
The next week Grant, the installer came out and redid the area. It now looks great.
One thing that I can't emphasize enough is that this company takes pride in their work and makes sure that their customers are satisfied - more companies need to be like that!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Broad Run, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
