Also 3rd party testing confirmed safe air test. The workers were in suits, masks and had ASD machines running very professional and highly recommended for any asbestos work! "We contacted the Home Detective on a Friday and were scheduled for the inspections the following Tuesday. We appreciated that the pricing was posted on Angie's List. When I arrived at the house, Mike had already begun taking notes and inspecting the exterior. He was friendly and emphasized his willingness to answer questions as we reviewed the property. Shortly after, Josh arrived to set up the radon test equipment. The radon test procedure was explained to me, as Mike continue the exterior examination. From that point, I followed Mike throughout the exterior and interior of the house and garage. I received a good explanation of both positive and negative findings, as well as answers to the many questions I asked along the way. The full inspection took approximately 2.5 hours. At the end of the inspection, Mike reviewed the items of concern that he felt were the most significant, which was very helpful. I received my written inspection report and pest report within 24 hours via email. For unknown reasons, the seller of the house did not turn the water on prior to the inspection. Mike offered to pick up the radon test equipment a few days later and do an additional inspection of the plumbing system at that time. Frustratingly, the water had still not been turned on at that later date. Considering this an area of concern, we pushed to have the water turned on by the seller and asked the Home Detective for the pricing for an additional trip to inspect the plumbing. Exceeding our expectations, Mike came to the house again a week later (no separate charge) and did a thorough examination of the plumbing system with me. We received an updated version of the inspection report that evening. Having had a number of home inspections over the years, the Home Detective met or exceeded our expectations. The inspection itself was a comfortable and informative experience, and the information we received was valuable in understanding what we were getting into with a new property."

"Casey Blake completed the inspection.  Casey arrived early, even before my realtor.  Since we couldn't get inside right away we started with the roof and the building exterior.  Once we were able to get inside Casey removed his shoes on the porch every time he came in.  Thorough and professional.  Tested all major systems along with a variety of minor items.  Made numerous maintenance recommendations on items that wouldn't impact the inspection report but would need to be addressed in the future.  Answered all my questions, even the dumb ones.  Final report was provided electronically.  I was able to access the report from my smartphone while we were still in the house."

"Steve arrived a few minutes early, talked about what he would and would not be looking at, basically he looked at anything he could inspect without completely taking things apart (he did take access panels off, just advised that he wouldn't be breaking into walls). He didn't mind that I walked through with him and asked questions. He was very thorough and found a few things that while not deal-breakers, where things I definitely wanted resolved by the seller. He was professional and courteous and obviously has a good deal of experience. His report was thorough and quick, he gave me a hand written copy upon completion, e-mailed typed copy later that night (to me and my Realtor). <br /> Since the Radon test requires 48 hours, I didn't get that the same day, but he emailed the results shortly after he picked up the test device and got them himself. He also left a contact card and notes explaining the Radon test to the seller near the unit in the basement, as well as on the dining room table and on each door leading out of the house. <br /> I would definitely use him again! <br />"

"They did an excellent job. Before moving into my new house I had the seller put in a radon system. They hired some fly-by-night cheap-o company that did a horrible job. I found out months later when I had water damage in my garage, and through research discovered many other problems. I called Suntech and he and his crew came out and fixed the whole system. I am very pleased with his work and highly recommend him. He was knowledgeable and professional."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Brook Park, OH

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
