I decided to shop Carrier Heating and Air Conditioning Systems because they received top ratings from Consumer Reports. I'm a smart shopper, so I decided to call every single Authorized Carrier Dealer. I started with "0" knowledge regarding A/C and cooling systems and I didn't even know what SEERS meant. I found out the higher the Seers number the higher the efficiency. I talked to only the Owners and Managers from different Carrier Dealers and was getting prices from. I would not speak to sales people for this information. It was all very complicated until I spoke with Jim Snyder from Irish Air. He narrowed it all down for me to One Particular Model that he highly recommended and wanted to sell to my mother. It was the top of line and very efficient Carrier Infinity Series. He mentioned that he put two of these units in a doctors home (same model) just recently. I was thinking in my head that my mother is on a very limited income and elderly and I wasn't sure why he was recommending such an extravagant and top of the line Carrier unit for my mother. Now, almost one year later, I truly understand why Mr. Snyder recommended this Top of the line Carrier Unit for my mother. I am so thankful of his knowledge and expertise and his smart decision and helping my mother to make this happen so she could afford to have such a nice and high efficient unit. My mom's unit is the Infinity Series, 16 SEERS, 3 Ton - 2 Stage Electrical Heat Pump with 3 Ton Variable Speed Furnace (air handler).  The best feature about this system is that it's a computer controlled thermostat, not a programmable thermostat. The smart computerized thermostat is communicating with the outside heat pump and furnace in the basement. The computer relays messages to the heat pump and furnace when there is no need to run at full capacity. This means that we can save more money on our electric bill. My mom is very money conscious, as she tries to save every penny she can. Last year she only would use the A/C unit when it was over 90 degrees. She probably used it approximately 5-6 times per month in July and August when the weather was above 90. The unit was so powerful, even though she had the thermostat set at 80 degrees, it was still comfortable inside.  If the thermostat is set to 79 degrees, shockingly, icy cold air is coming out of  the register and inside is cool and very comfortable.  I've never seen any A/C unit do that in my life.  Also, it was a shock to receive the electric bill when I didn't see much of a change in the amount. By contrast, this past winter time when it was negative 0 degrees, my mother had the thermostat set no higher than 64-65 degrees. Even then the temperature was still comfortable inside the house. I truly thank Jim Snyder. He installed the equipment in the beginning of July 2013 and he stuck around until the end of the month to make sure my mother?s unit was working properly. The reason he wanted to make sure it was running correctly was due to my mother?s duct work and return air supply being weak. The unit was very powerful and because my mom's duct work and return air was so weak, the unit could not run at full capacity. We needed to overcome the narrow duct work and increase air flow, we have two choices in order to increase the return air flow. We were going to have to enlarge the return air filter system. The Air filter system was 16"x20" and it should be increased to 20"x20" x 4" or more. He stated I had two choices in order to increase the return air filter system. The first was having the duct work moved to the right or the furnace moved to the left. So that way the filter system could be wider. When we moved the duct work, we would have to cut at an angle and connect another panel (technical term is called transitional), and that's the easy way to do it. With this method comes some sacrifice of the return air because of the panel being connected at an angle. The second way, which is the hardest way, but also the best way and most time consuming, was to tear down the furnace (air handler), which was sold previously and re-install the unit and recharge the Freon. Irish air has 2 choices and they are going the extra mile to help my mom increase the air flow problem. They wanted to do everything right so they chose the hard way at no cost. It took a full day to install it, just like when they first installed it in the beginning of July 2013. In order to overcome narrow duct, work he went the extra mile to enlarge the air filter system and relocate the furnace (air handler) and recharge the Freon. When they installed in the beginning of July they were here early in the morning until around 6pm. It was the same when they did the second repair. In order to improve air flow inside the house, they enlarged two return air vents and also cut a hole in the kitchen and installed another register. They also put a few dampers in the unit to control air flow on top of everything else they did! They did whatever they could to improve the return air flow in my mother?s house and we are very grateful for their time and efforts to ensure everything was working correctly. Mr. Snyder's prices were very reasonable and he didn't play the "game" like others did. I had shopped around and his prices were extremely reasonable. I want to thank him every day for his smart decision for installing and recommending this unit for my mother. I can judge people, even on the phone, and I wasn't impressed with the other authorized dealers and felt they were not very trustworthy. I did not feel this way about Mr. Snyder or his company. I was frustrated about the air flow, even though it wasn't his fault and sometimes was even a little nasty with him. Even then he was very polite and tolerated my bad behavior. I later apologized and felt bad. I love this company because it is a family operated business. All of his family members were very kind and nice. I highly recommend this company to anyone who is shopping for an air conditioning system/service. I also recommend the Carrier Infinity Series. It is a great investment that you can enjoy for many years.
