"Right from the start everything went like "clockwork". Communications and scheduling were timely and accurate. Marsha kept us informed every step of the way. The estimate for the job was fair and reasonable and we signed on and scheduled the job. Showing up on time, communicating necessary information such as delivery of supplies and job scheduling are important. They followed through perfectly. The job was done in one day, the crew was professional, experienced and very clean. We are delighted with our new patio and we do not hesitate to recommend Exotic Pavers to anyone. So, do yourself a big favor, call them for an estimate...you'll be very glad you did!!"

"Concrete driveway leveling and crack repair work was performed to our satisfaction, by a 2 man crew, who arrived promptly at 8 am and completed the repairs in less than 4 hours.
The work was expertly done. Almost half of the driveway had settled with resultant cracks and joint movement, caused by water intrusion into the substrate below the slab. The slab has now been raised back up to level by drilling small holes in the slab and filling below with light weight dense foam, pressure injected. Upon completion of the leveling process, all the crack joints were filled with sand cement topped off with a flowable epoxy, thus sealing the joints.
Observing the work as it was done, I was impressed by the skill level shown and, especially, the judgement of how much injection can be done without causing further cracking to occur due to over filling, or uneven filling.
It is important for potential customers to know that this is repair work. The intent is to make the driveway completely functional and safe. The evidence of it being repaired will be obvious but should, when finished properly, be acceptable. The only alternative, complete demolition, sub slab consolidation and new slab construction, would probably cost at least ten times as much and much longer to complete.
The two men worked diligently, showed a high level of competence and were very courteous at all times. We were very impressed and would, following this experience, strongly recommend Acculevel, Inc.
Myles Murphy
"

"Besides Dr Sweep, we have also asked two other companies to come and inspect our chimney. All three groups gave different comments. One of them suggested rebuilding the chimney for 6 thousand dollars! We talked to some knowledgeable friends and decided to go with Dr Sweep.
The group that did the tile insulation and crack fixing was great. They were also very professional and courteous. We are happy with the results and have been enjoying the fireplace without any problem this winter.
"

"Mike and Dustin arrived on time and were very friendly, professional and efficient. They wore shoe covers and protected my new carpeting with a drop cloth. When I purchased this condo in the fall, the home inspector suggested I have the fireplace inspected and I thought that was a great idea, especially because I would not have turned it on anyway in fear of a gas leak or some other malfunction, not knowing what condition it was in. Mike took pictures of everything, showing me the make, model and serial numbers in case I need to contact the manufacturer in the future. He also sent me a link to the User Manual online and gave me step-by-step instructions for lighting the pilot light in case it goes out in the future. Mike was able to tell immediately that there had never been a wood burning fire in the fireplace, as the chimney was clean. They went up on the roof to inspect things and found that the chase cover needs work. I emailed the picture they took of the chase cover along with Mike's comments to my condo association, making them aware that it needs servicing. Mike emailed me all the pictures he took and I will definitely keep them in my gas log fireplace file. End of story ... I was very pleased and would use Doctor Flue's services again in a heartbeat, and I will recommend them to others. As finances allow, I may upgrade to one of the newer, state-of-the-art systems that Mike described!
"

"Joe did an excellent job everything went smooth. He is very creative on the way he lays out the front porch, sidewalk and patio. It turned out better than I ever imagined it. Definitely would hire him on my next project."

"My back yard was very uneven and lumpy and was about 4-6 higher than the sidewalk. They removed the fire pit and clothes line bracket, scraped and leveled the back yard. They worked with the sprinkler company who had to come and extend the line and add a head. They had to remove a number of roots from trees previously removed that were buried. Reinstalled the fire pit in a different location and the clothes line bracket. In the front yard pulled back a mulch bed to scrape and level next to the driveway, replaced the mulch bed and scraped the ditch to give me a easier slope for cutting the grass. Put down topsoil, had a very nice even grade. Came back the next day and put down the Hydro seed. Gave me 2 pages of instructions on how to maintain the new and quot;babyand quot; grass that would come up. They were very courteous, answered all my questions during the process and when finished asked if I had any other questions . A pleasure to work with. I was very pleased with their attention to detail in both the work and the clean up. Cutting my grass just got a lot easier.
"

"Wow! We are impressed! The work was done in a timely manner, always with a cheerful smile and the project looks fantastic! We did major renovations to the inside of our home when we moved in - and could not locate someone who knew how to paint the concrete (other than someone other than Homeland Renovations who assumed they knew what to do - and in our conversations we realized they did not). This type of painting requires expertise. The kind of paint used for around the pool area (so children won't slip), the knowledge of how to repair the concrete area, the ability to move the plants and furniture off and on the area, the beauty of the completed task were all considerations we had for choosing Homeland Renovations.

Cheryl and Bryan are delightful people who are efficient, caring (they made sure we loved the paint color!), and professional. It was hard work, but they were always willing and ready to do what it took to make their customer happy. True Customer Service! My husband and I felt that the price was very fair for the work that needed to be completed.

If this were the only project we did with Angie's List (and it isn't and won't be) - I'd say we got our money's worth for the cost of Angie's List on this one project alone. (THANK YOU ANGIE!)"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Brooklyn, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
