"Within a day or two of our inquiry, owner/manager Kyle Hodges was here to evaluate our problem and give an estimate for the work he discussed with us. Although we live in a townhouse, the record-breaking Maryland rainfall and the slant of the front lawn toward our foundation had caused serious water build up at our foundation and threat to overflow into the basement.. For several weeks we had been bailing rainwater round the clock from the trench that had formed at the front of our home and using dozens of paper towel rolls to absorb water. Kyle saw the seriousness of the problem, brought his co-worker Matt who would do the work to help plan their project and scheduled a date. Matt was excellent and very thorough. So far the work they did has solved the problem successfully, and we look forward to their return in the spring for more corrective landscaping. "This work took place eleven months ago, but that gives us the ability to say that everything Kurt’s team planted looks great and is growing nicely, except one bush that is struggling, which Kurt agreed to replace without hesitation. We have been in our house for 22 years, and finally got around to replacing the crummy landscaping and walkway the developer put in. Distinct Landscapes installed a paver walkway, and a complete set of bushes, flowers and a crape myrtle tree. The work was done very well and within budget, and the crew distinguished itself by how well they cleaned up the site. The spacing between plantings to allow for future growth seems perfect. Most of all we like Kurt. He is low-key and friendly, offers solid, knowledgeable opinions when asked, and never applies any sort of sales pressure. "Mulch and trimming were done right away and looked very nice, although some weeds have sprouted up from the mulched area.



Installation of pavers took 3 months to even begin, but it was done in one day. The constant rain played a part for the delay, but I did feel that the project was on the back burner. We wanted the pavers to match the patio pavers in color. We went with his recommendations. The pavers do not match - appear the same color of cement pavement. Upon inquiry, was told that they had heard that a lot and that it will take a few months and color may change. The installation looks great but we are very disappointed with the color and hope it does change to match the patio. I will respond back in a few months and let you know if pavers did change color.

"I have used Freestate Tree Service before, as they always do a great job. This experience was not different. I had to have a dying Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) removed, approximately 30 feet tall. They promptly responded to my initial e-mail to have them come out and check to see if the tree was able to be saved (it wasn't, which was no surprise) and e-mailed an estimate the next day. The other two companies (one wasn't able to get someone out to look at the tree until 2 weeks from my e-mail) and the one that did stop by gave an over-the-phone quote that was significantly higher. The Freestate guys showed up bright and early to start cutting away at the tree. They always seem to do quite a lot of work in a rather short amount of time. By the afternoon the tree was gone and they were cleaning up."
