"There were two issues to be addressed. One entire household circuit was dead, and some old wiring needed upgrading to code. They never found what the cause of the dead circuit was, but they were able to work around it or bypass it so that it works now. Upgrading was satisfactorily done."

"Andy kept in touch with me about his arrival time. He listened to the issues we were having to make a good assessment of what work was needed. He kept us updated about our outlet, wiring and options. He changed out the outlet and got everything running smoothly. I will definitely call Andy again for any future electrical issues!"

"Reliable work. Fair price. Great guy. Nick is my go to electrician for any job big or small at my house. Have used Nick 10+ times over the past 7 years. He works hard and kept every commitment, even if that meant staying late or working weekends. When you find someone like Nick you stop looking, I can’t recommend him enough."

"I am a General Contractor. I have been using James Legrand for his licensed electrician services for about eighteen years now and on over one hundred homes. Occasionally I have had to call them back to take care of minor problems or for a better final site clean up. Based on my past experiences, I will continue using Electric Alternatives for any electrical work."

"Raleigh of Jett Electrical Services and his crew is the best contractor I have ever hired and it was a pleasure to work with them. They were prompt, responsible and they kept working all hours until the job got done correctly. Nobody else was able to do it but they did and after six months of problems we’re finally stress-free. We would gladly recommend Jett Electrical Services to anyone who asks."

"Mike arrived on time. He was very professional and courteous. Installed two outlets under my house for installation of a smartsump/sanidrycx. Finished within an hour and ensured me if there were any problems to just give him a call. The cost was, I believe, reasonable. Thanks Mike! Brenda Jones, Columbia, SC"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Camden, SC

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
