I, read reviews on Angies list first. I also consulted local business people, who had worked with various granite companies in the area. In several places I visited, I was told that Stone by Design is excellent. Their reputation is well deserved.  <br /> I then got quotes from some of the top granite installers in the area. I visited Stone by Design last. The business at 1115 Spartina Drive off Hwy 101 in Beaufort is impressive. David showed us literally hundreds of slabs of granite and marble. I believe that they have nearly 2,000 slabs to view. I don?t chose contractors by price. I want the best job, but it was an added bonus that the quote David gave us was the lowest. <br /> Selecting my countertop was a difficult decision. I wanted something beautiful since the kitchen can be seen from every public room in the house. I was torn between quartz and granite. I visited Stone by Design three separate times trying to make up my mind and David came to our house twice prior to the installation.  He was infinitely patient, and I did not feel any pressure. David said "we want you to be happy with what you get."   <br /> I am more than happy, I am thrilled. There were no surprises. The installation took one day and is perfect. David gave us several options for sinks and supplied a plumber for the hook-ups.  We paid exactly what David quoted and the countertops are stunning. "The Holderby Brothers run a good business and they seek long-term relationships with homeowners.  This is a good approach and results in a better understanding of the needs of the client.  In my case, I have had them do "handy" work like handing new lights, installing custom chair rails and wainscoting, as well as larger projects like my Stacked Stone custom wall.  They come out a walk the space, which is a process for homeowner to present vision and needs, budget, etc.  Then they provide a written quote with materials, labor and price.  Be sure to ask for separate quotes if you have them look at multiple projects in same visit.  I liked this approach because I was able to prioritize and budget for each project and then decide which ones to start and when. <br /> They are very low-pressure, and will offer flexibility to allow you to bring your own products or have them procure the materials. One example of this was in doing the concrete backer drywall for my wall.  They recommended that, and the result is a sturdier installation!  The owners are very involved, if they use full-time workers or if the special need is to bring in a sub-contractor.   <br /> They are very comfortable with current technology...you can sign things electronically, get receipts to your email, send photos of your desired look (i used a lot of pinterest photos,,,haha), and have an office staff that is available and responsive. <br /> Overall, great company. <br />"

"The quality of the solid and Engineered wood is very high. Compared to previous product I experienced from other suppliers their finish is harder and less chances of being scratched. Each box of the Solid wood always has two 7' long planks. This give you enough long planks to be used in special situation like establishing the reference start line while installing. Mill work is good, so installation went smoothly. The problem I don't like is that they charged me two different shipments because the solid and the Engineered wood comes from different parts in the US."

"We went with quartz countertops from the  Cosmos line.  There are so many choices!   <br />  Artisan Granite stocks many gorgeous granite slabs in the yard. Several really pretty pieces I had not seen before in other stoneyards.  <br /> It was a big decision to choose between granite/quartz. Note that Artisan's prices are very competitive with the area vendors, so the price for the different products wasn't that much of an issue. I always try to buy local, if at all possible, rather than from big box stores that start with the letter "L".  <br /> After much research and agonizing, I decided to go with ordering a quartz countertop.   Linda at Artisan Granite is  very sweet & knowledgable.  She guided me through the process of choosing a sink, ordering, measuring, installation etc.  Their guy came out the next day and measured for the pattern.  The very next week -  it was all done!    <br /> <br />"
