"I'm not fully moved into the home yet, but I will update when I am there permanently. The crew was very professional, worked diligently, cleaned up after every day of work (three day job--french drain expansion, two additional sump pumps installed, window drains into the sump pumps, pretty extensive job)."

"We use Laury for repair and maintenance of our heating and cooling units for our rental properties and each time we need something done, the staff at Laury never cease to provide quality service. The technicians are always knowledgeable, thorough, courteous and pleasant. We recently had an HVAC system installed in one of our units and the home is rather large and is over 100 years old and there was not a whole lot of empty space to work with. The guys at Laury were able to install the system and all of the duct work and components involved neatly with the age and make-up of the home in-mind. They were pleasant throughout the entire installation which took almost a week. They were always on time and always communicated the process with us. Laury is a trusted business with many years of experience behind them. Prices are also extremely reasonable given the cost of services right now. Warren you are the man!"

"Very professional from start to finish! The salesman/ design technician showed up right on time, he listened to my concerns and came up with the solution on the spot! The price was less than expected and the project was done in a very timely manner! The technicians who did the work were also punctual and did a phenomenal job!! Perfect installation of a drain and pump system, fast and neat, cleaned up 100%. The office staff also polite and very efficient! I can not speak for any other services they provide, but for waterproofing, I do not think anyone could do it better!"

"We called Frank on a holiday weekend with our concerns about not having hot water and low water pressure in the main bath.He came on Saturday to assess the situation and assured us that he would be able to take care of the problem in a timely fashion. He was out with his crew on Wednesday to complete the job. Frank, confidently was able to replace the water lines so that we now have hot water restored in our main bath and also replaced the hose bib on the outside, because of low water pressure. We were very pleased with his and his crew's knowledge and expertise to complete the job with minimal disruption during installation. The job was priced very reasonable. We are extremely pleased with his prompt service to accommodate our needs. We would highly recommend Frank Majewski Plumbing and intend on using him again ,if the need arises, for future plumbing needs. Lee and Linda LaBella"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Cape May, NJ

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
