"Anthony with ALO Radon came out and did a CRM radon test for us. He was very knowledgable about radon and patient enough to answer all my questions. I recommend these guys to anyone needing radon work done. Why is there no RADON category? I will have to file this under HOME INSPECTION I guess."

"It?s advantageous to have the expert in the field do your work!   We bought a 40 year old ranch style house. During the negotiations we had it inspected and the radon tests were above the national limits, so we specified it be remedied. The selling realtor countered with  something like ?here?s $1000 off the price; call our usual guy - he can fix it for that?.  That guy didn?t reply to our voice mails.  I looked at radon mitigation contractors in Angie?s List and discovered one of them, Dr. Leo Moorman, is the national expert who has done a lot of the academic research and published in the scientific literature on the topic.  I read a couple of his studies and discovered he has not only developed the mathematical models for determining optimal mitigation configurations for a given building but he has combined that with at least 1.5 decades of actual installing experience on more than 1500 buildings (in addition to his regular job as an Assistant Professor of Physics).  He?s the certified instructor who teaches other contractors how to do it right.  Leo was great to work with.  He inspected our home and explained his approach to the problem.  There was uncertainty on whether the space under the basement concrete floor was one whole space of dirt and air that could be vented by one hole in the floor (the realtor?s assumption), or there could be foundation footings that divides that space into multiple spaces requiring multiple holes and pipes to vent each of those spaces.  He drilled small holes in well-chosen places and made pressure and flow measurements and plans accordingly which he discussed with us.  He and his helper worked diligently to drill holes and install PVC pipes carefully without splashing or affecting a basement full of yet-unpacked boxes of belongings. They filled cracks and their test holes in the concrete.  We ended up with two vent holes in the basement and one in the garage floor slab each with appropriately-sized pipes integrated into a single exhaust pipe through the roof above the garage.  He placed the venting fan and motor in the attic above the garage so that the sound is undetectable in the house and yard.  The final radon measurements were drastically reduced and well below the acceptable thresholds.  The total price was double what the realtor brashly predicted, but it was a reasonable price for what it took to get the job done <strong>right</strong>.  Based on my experience, I strongly recommend this professional to others for domestic and commercial radon testing and mitigation work. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Casper, WY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
