"We called Mr. Handyman when we needed assistance hanging a light fixture in our dining room. They were prompt in their response, sent a very qualified technician out to do the work, and the end result exceeded all of our expectations. Since that time, weâ ve used them for various handymen projects over the past few years. Highly recommend this company - excellent customer service, honest, hard working and well trained technicians."

"Ivan, Dave, Josh, Jesse and James (along with a couple others whose names I didn't learn) were amazing! My home project of handling wood rot, other water damage, painting, gate replacements, fan installation and various repairs became quite involved and they stuck with it with a great attitude and workmanship. They were very knowledgeable and handled my various requests quite professionally!"

"Finished product was very good. The problems with the project were basically related to keeping scheduled appointments and punctuality. The project was scheduled 2-3 months in advance, but the project didn't start or finish on time. There were empty promises."

"This company did such an extraordinary job I have never been so impressed. I have a three-story house that badly needed to be repainted. Dany and his team certainly delivered. My home is so clean and shiny it looks better than when we brought it brand new."

"I contacted them and described the job that I needed a bid on. We have a 600 square foot office with 3 rooms. We agreed on the price and time of service. He and I both arrived 15 minutes early and inspected the area to be painted. He noticed a  drywall crack and said he would make the repair and no extra charge. I left and came back late that afternoon to pay him. He had needed to apply 3 coats of paint as we were using a much lighter color than what was used before. The office looked terrific, I did not see any evidence of the wall crack that had previously existed. I asked him how much extra that would cost and he replied that he would honor his original bid. I gave him some extra cash as an expression of my gratitude. I have several work related needs for paint contractors and I plan to use him from now on. It's refreshing to find someone who is reliable and a great craftsman.

"B Ann did a great job.  They were accommodating, efficient, friendly and professional.  Because this work was in a rental property, I had to coordinate schedules with others. They were very helpful in keeping everyone informed about when they would be working. They also put additional crew members on the job to get it done as quickly as possible. The work was high quality, and they were quick to correct the two items that needed attention at the end.   I'd certainly use them again.

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Cave Creek, AZ

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
