"Jamie came over to inspect both the water heater and swamp cooler, he was able to replace and install water the same day. The cooler took a few days longer. The job was done professionally and they were able to answer any concerns. Will always use Union plumbing for my plumbing needs."

"Sent to two plumbers to install the faucet and make other connections, which we were charged for both of their time. This was not agreed upon beforehand. They struggled to install the faucet and seemed inexperienced with PEX piping. When completed the reverse osmosis faucet has far less pressure than it used to have. They came back to check it, but then only blamed the unit (which worked perfectly fine before it was disconnected)."

"This is the second remodel DR Construction has done for us. Our experience was nothing short of wonderful both times. This remodel was a complete redo of a bathroom to make a roll-in shower for an elderly woman. They had to take the room down to the studs and had to break concrete to move plumbing. The work was done quickly and with great craftsmanship. We couldn't be more pleased and will definitely cal DR Construction again."

"We bought a new, fancy faucet for our kitchen, and frankly, I hate doing plumbing stuff. We've used Sun City before so I called in the morning and they came out that afternoon and installed the new faucet, replace an under sink water filter, and did a great job as usual. The cost was about what I expected, and worth it to not have to crawl under the sink. Sun City has done several jobs for us, from minor to major and both plumbing and heating. They are the only company I call."

"Dave was recommended by a Lowes employee after I asked a series of questions about one of their water softeners. He told me that if I wanted something that would last, to consider a customized system specific to treat El Paso water. I made an appointment with Dave where he gave us information about the sources of El Paso’s water and did chemical tests with our kitchen water to show us the (unhealthy) levels of rock sediments and chlorine that is absorbed directly by our skin. He put the same water into a miniature filtration tube he developed to also show us how his system cleans and softens the water. He offered to install one of his tanks on a trial basis which we accepted. Two days later when he started the install connection to the water shut off valve in the garage, he showed me how the valve connection was corroded from the City water, so he replaced it free of charge with a better one. We tried the system for nine days, then Dave returned to hear our opinions – no more itchy skin, water tasted better, it felt softer, fewer soap spots, the washing machine did not have the same odor, etc. He chemical tested our sink water again and showed us the difference in the quality just nine days of using his test tank. As we went over purchase options, his custom install is a plug and play in that you can buy a basic unit and add to it, depends on your budget. In my decision I took into consideration other options: if I had purchased a basic one size fits all water softener plus filtration from Lowes, plus the cost of hiring a plumber to hopefully do the job right, we would have spent about $2,000; a more advanced system would have cost between $3,500 and $4,500; I had also called local companies that do water treatment installs and they charge between $6,500 and $7,500. We ended up buying a system for just under $5,000. He gave us the option to put the water filtration under out sink or connect it directly to the refrigerator. We chose the latter which requires custom plumbing for the water return which Dave did it at no additional charge. He also gave us plumbing options for the tank regeneration, and told us that if we didn’t like our selection he would return, again free of charge, to install the other plumbing option. Another positive is that if later we want to increase the tank size, he will take the smaller tank and give us full credit on the install of the larger tank since he can use the smaller one for his test installs for potential customers. Still another positive is that because we connected the filtration to the refrigerator, he ordered a smaller unit that fits in one of our cabinets. The reverse osmosis in this smaller unit is more advanced and slightly costlier, but he didn’t charge us the difference. It has been one month since the install and it was a great investment. I watched Dave do the custom install and plumbing from start to finish in our garage, which includes quality parts that will not corrode. The entire process is not your typical sale. It is apparent that Dave commits to each of his installs and wants to make sure the customer is fully satisfied, to the point that he is easily accessible for any question after the sale."

"This was an emergency as water was leaking out from under the garage door, down the driveway and into the street! This was mid afternoon. I didn't know where the leak was coming from; but if seemed to be where the washer was. I thought maybe a pipe had broken; but that didn't make sense since the washer hadn't been used in 2 days. I immediately researched Angie's list and chose 5 Points due to the A rating and so many positive reviews. Let me just say this, we live in New Mexico...just over the state line so a lot of providers were unable to perform the work. I called 5 Points and talked to Carlos. I explained my problem and he said he could out in the morning; but he also said that if it got worse to call him back and he would come out to see what could be done temporarily. When my husband came home from work, he saw that it the hot water heater. I immediately called Carlos back and told him that it was the hot water heater. He asked me to take pictures of the hot water heater and to get measurements of the heater and the closet. My husband talked with him about what kind of water heater to get. My husband had already turned the water off to the heater so at least it wouldn't keep leaking. I received a call at 0840 the next morning and 2 workers showed up 40 minutes later. They attached a hose to the old heater to completely drain the water out...they drained it out to a tree in the front yard. That impressed me. I know it is a little thing; but that still impressed me. Waste not, want not. The new water was installed quickly and the old one hauled out. I was very happy and pleased. The total cost was $825.00. The cost of the new hot water heater (40 gal, energy efficient State Select, and parts was $328.00. That leaves $497 for service, incidental supplies and taxes. Since this more or less an emergency, I did not "shop around". Also, we bought the water heater sight unseen. It was purchased from a distributor where we couldn't have bought one anyway. So I'm thinking that we got a good water heater at a much less cost than what we could have gotten elsewhere. The cost of the service may seem a little high; but we are happy. We had a new hot water heater in less than 24 hours, Carlos was most responsive in getting back with me and selecting a new water heater that would meet our needs. The workers were pleasant, friendly and professional in both appearance and in their work. My only recommendation would be to have been given basic maintenance instructions that should be done in order to extend the life of the water heater. I found the information in the booklet left on the new water heater. Our old water heater was 18 years old. We lived here 6 years and did no maintenance work at all. We are planning on updating both our kitchen and bathroom in the next 18mo. You can bet that we will be calling Carlos and 5 points for that job. Research done!!!"

"Was contacted by the Owner (Rick) and he sent out a technician Travis Joslin. He was very professional, friendly, and knew his job very well! Since I hadn't used my system in a couple of years he checked everything out and he was honest and let me know that the system was in much better shape than what I thought it was. He only needed to replace a couple of the sprinkler heads and redirect a few more. I had a zone that wasn't providing enough water in one of my zones and needed to get another head installed and I also requested to get Drip lines installed into my flower bed. I made another appointment and Travis came out again; completed the work and I'm very satisfied with how my system is working. I would recommend this company if you're having any issues with your sprinkler system!! The company will return your phone calls, if an appointment is made they will show up on time, and if your tech is Travis expect Outstanding, Quality Work!!! I highly recommend this company and will use them for any sprinkler issue I may have in the future!!!"

"Our Puronics water softener system has been installed and in use for about 40 months and it was time to recharge/replace the carbon filter. We called the company and got scheduled for someone to come out to do the service. On the day scheduled, Issac arrived on time and serviced our system. He was professional and explained everything he would do. He checked the water quality, replaced the carbon/silver media and replaced a leaking O-ring on the drain line. Very glad we went with this system and MicroPure. They have been great from the start."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Chaparral, NM

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
