"I’m hired this team when I first moved into my new home in October 2022. I’ve kept them since and they have consistently and reliably maintained my yard since then. They do great work and are respectful of my property. "

"Farmers Landscaping and Concrete has completed several projects for us, and in the past did a great job. Since they did a great job in the past, we reached out to them to remove our old asphalt driveway and install a new concrete driveway with stamped concrete throughout. In the beginning I had questions concerning how some areas looked with colors, textures and footprints and was told it would be okay with time and a little dirt. What we ended up with is 4 different colors of concrete; white, gray, light tan, and dark tan; different textures some smooth and some very course; part of the driveway and stamped areas are spalling (the top flaking off causing holes) and fluorescent blue areas. We have reached out to Farmers Landscaping and Concrete asking for these areas to be repaired and they blamed us. Farmers Landscaping and Concrete has taken over $70K for the driveway and will not stand behind their work. Be careful who you trust."

"We hired them to dismantle an existing walkway beside and behind the house and create a new one. WOW! It’s so beautiful and structurally sound. These guys are so easy to work with. The owner Dave, was able to make our somewhat hazy dreams a reality. Site manager Terry is knowledgeable and friendly. The staff are considerate of our property and friendly. We couldn’t be more pleased."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Chapel Hill, NC

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
