"Joel Macbeth is fantastic! I will never let anyone touch my roof— part of it is ceramic and part of it is metal which he also installed and he installed the asphalt roof at our barn. He is a true pro. This guy knows his business and is also a great communicator. He comes when he says and is very reasonably priced. I will all contractors were exactly like him. Hire him! You will be glad you did. I give him an A+ in every category. Feel free to call me if you want more information. I have used Joel fir at least 15 years."

"Excellent company. From the sales associate, Lowell, to the crew, Henry and Raphael: everyone was very professional and respectful. Lowell explained what I needed and didn't try to sell me on work I didn't want. The crew did an excellent job installing the gutters and even removed and installed a small rain gutter and barrel to the shed at back of property. I will definitely hire Valley Roofing when it comes time for a new roof."

"I am impressed by the quality of work performed at my house. We bought a house in 2020 at Westlake in Crozeet. We wanted shower doors in our bathrooms and no curtains. Dobson Glass installed a shower door in our basement's bathroom, where the tub is rectangular. But in our guest's room's bathroom, interestingly, the edge of the tub is curved, therefore a round shower door was the only option. Those round doors are available at Home Depot. BUT, NO ENTITY IN THE EXTENDED CHARLOTTESVILLE AREA was interested in the project of installing such a door. In all my online searches, MR. POLLARD IS THE ONLY ONE, who called me, and who was willing to tackled the job. And he, and his team, did a fantastic job. They also repaired a heavy wood mantle over our fire place, which was falling. They fixed it without breaking the marble around it and without any visual marks as to where they put the nails. They performed other repairs around the house to our complete satisfaction. The men were diligent, hard working, polite and professional. We are planning future projects. I would hired Mr. Pollard and his team any time. I highly remommend him."

"This company had proven to me to be very trustworthy when there was hail damage in the community. Many roofs needed replacement, my immediate next door neighbors being one of them. They at the time of getting their estimate asked if I would like the man from Roof Works to look at my roof while he was there. He went up looked my roof over & informed me that my roof had not been damaged . His honesty sold me right there on his company. When we had the wind damage I called Roof Works , they came out the next day, examined my roof & I only needed a few shingles replaced. We scheduled the appointment to do so & my roof was repaired within that week. He also gave me a very fair price."

"Joe and his crew did a great job. They were careful not to damage any of the shrubs and did a great job in removing dirt and mildew. He also looked over vents on the roof and found that some of the boots on the vent pipes were getting ready to fail. He is very proactive. We would certainly use his services in the future."

"Damon is great. He was out on our roof assessing what needed to be done, back to measure 7 skylights, and then back to drop off a sample of the shingles we picked in case the HOA wanted to see it for approval. The team of installers and workmanship was great. Damon was on site all day each day. Things that people care about: they covered the bushes and ground areas with tarps and they cleaned up each day. Price was lower than other companies. Another company wanted to remove our cooper flashing and replace it with aluminum. Roofcrafters saw no reason do that, saving us money and saving our nicer flashing."

"Initially we just wanted a new deck. Loved it so much we had them install retractable awnings. Came time for new siding and knew we could trust them for great quality at a fair price, replaced the doors and gutters at the same time. Could not ask for better company that stands behind their work. When we replace the windows we know who to call."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Charlottesville, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
