"Mr. George (owner of R. George’s Paving in Gaithersburg, MD) just finished replacing my asphalt driveway. He and his men did a nice job, and the new driveway looks great. I highly recommend that anyone considering replacing or resurfacing their driveway give R. George’s Paving a call."

"Sam Rafferty responded the same day to my request on HomeAdvisor to widen the front of our driveway and gave us a quote right away. He called the day before to let us know the time of his arrival. The job was finished in one day, as promised. We are going to have Rafferty Paving come back & seal the whole driveway. Rafferty Paving is very dependable, I would recommend them to anyone needing their driveway paved."

"Re-graded asphalt drive next to garage to prevent water entering garage during storms. Difficult job that required forming a slight swale. Flawless! Weâ ve had huge storms and no water in garage. Professional crew, totally focused on the job. Would definitely hire again."

"An honest and reliable company. Professional people that I met from Paterick that was honest in telling me exactly what I needed to Shawn and his Uncle that did the sealcoating. Paterick meet me at my house at my requested time. Told me that all I needed was to sealcoat the driveway that it was in good shape and did not need a top coat of paving. Two other contractors priced me up for something I really did not need. Shawn called me at my appointment time and let me know he was running about 30 min late. He arrived just when he said he would. His uncle and Shawn explained exactly what they were going to do and were a pleasure to talk to. My 6000 sg ft driveway looks like new a great job and I will remember D&H <br />"

"We are really pleased with our new deck. At the start of the project, the communication between us and the company was a little sketchy but everything worked out in the long run.  Morris and Jeremy, the builders, were very professional and did a wonderful job with the construction.  We highly recommend JC Smith and will definitely use them again if needed. <br />"

"I have a large red brick home I wanted to paint white, including front functional shutters and back nonfunctional ones.  The job presented many challenges.  First of all, the brick's rough texture and 60 year old brick meant that several coats had to be applied.  The entire structure first had to be power washed, then painted with a sealer.   Patrick and Michael Rafferty began the job the day after the contract was signed.  The painting began during the few warmer days in January, and continued a few weeks later after the severe cold weather had abated.  Then they ordered and replaced shutters as necessary.  Their attention to detail was very good, even removing downspouts, cleaning and painting them before replacing.  They are extremely prompt and courteous and were on the job every day without interruption until completed; they wasted NO time.   I must emphasize this was a very large, rather involved job.   I cannot attest to price because I did not get other quotes; I did this because I have used them for 20 years or more on several of of my farm outbuildings and they always did an excellent job."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Chewsville, MD

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
