"We are trying to get our house ready to sell and really needed advice on kitchen upgrades, interior painting, window treatments...all those things that make new buyers go all in. However, I am not creative at all, so this was becoming a challenge. I found a lot of great reviews about Nancy on Angie’s List, so we called her; she responded within 24 hours and she fit us in her schedule within 72 hours. She is extremely flexible with scheduling and fit us in on a Friday night, arriving right on time (even in horrible weather). Within minutes of walking through our front door, we loved her. She is extremely nice and very genuine; and very respectful of what you currently have and your current tastes (some realtors might make you feel terrible about your house, but she is just the opposite). She walked through the front door with the eyes of a potential buyer and we went through every room as a buyer would. She gave us excellent suggestions on paint colors, countertops (even left some granite samples with us), window treatments, lights, accessories, and more. There were several areas that I'd planned on spending money to change and she advised me not to, that I wouldn't get my money back. She also gave many suggestions for when we do actually stage the house and how to make it more appealing. She gave us several links for affordable window treatments & lighting, gave us names of people to call for various work we plan on having done. It was an absolutely wonderful experience; I wish I'd know about her 12 years ago when we first bought the house. I will definitely be calling her when we buy a new house. Her fee is exceptionally reasonable; she saved me from spending more than her fee on unnecessary upgrades/improvements! I dreaded getting our house ready, but after working with Nancy, I'm excited about how it's going to turn out and the fact that I'm not going to be spending as much as I thought I'd need to. "I have hired both Habitar Design and Stratagem Construction for several projects over the past six years (they are sister companies – Habitar is the design arm and Stratagem Construction implements renovation projects, etc.). My experience has been uniformly excellent. Both Habitar and Stratagem have professional workers committed to customer satisfaction. The companies stand behind their work and remedy any issues promptly. Most recently, in August 2018 I worked with an excellent Habitar designer I’ve worked with before – Hannah – to replace defective mirrors in both bathrooms of the South Loop condo to which my wife and I recently moved. The project was completed promptly and the mirrors were installed competently and looked great. I also worked with Hannah in choosing new shades for the condo windows. In the past, I also hired Habitar and Stratagem for various other projects, including installation of windows to enclose a three-quarter wall in a condo bedroom. In addition, Hannah has worked with us to help design a number of living spaces, including guiding us in selection of furniture, and ensuring that we maximize use of space effectively. I strongly recommend both Habitar and Stratagem for both design and construction/renovation projects."

"Jeanne was great!  I saw her reviews on Angie's List and went to her website and was sold.  She helped pick out the colors to our new home.  She met me at our old residence where my husband and I were still living to see our current furniture and colors.  We then went to our new home so she could evaluate the space.  At that first visit, I chose some possible colors with Jeanne.  During the second visit, she brought big paint swatches and we confirmed the colors.  The only snafu was that many of the colors that I originally chose were only available from one store out in the suburbs of Chicago.  I wish I had known that during the first visit, because then I would have stuck with only Benjamin Moore paints.  The reason for this is because we live in the City and if in the future I needed to touch up anything, I wanted it to be easy to obtain the paint again.  Jeanne did help me rectify this during that second visit.  We were able to find Benjamin Moore colors that were closely compatible to the C2 colors that I had originally picked.  The whole process only took a few hours.  She was very efficient and made the process go smoothly.  Thanks Jeanne! <br />"

"I am a man who works and I don't have an eye for design, My house was white and boring. I wanted my house to look like a man and his cat (Goldie) lived there. Joanmarie has been working with me planning, designing, and re-habbing my home. We have worked together for since the end of 2010. So far we have completed my living room, kitchen, and 3 bedrooms. We went over the paint colors for each room. She also worked with the contractor as the work was done. <br /> <br /> Joanmarie has helped me with the purchase of several furniture pieces, carpets, kitchen cabinets, paintings. window treatments (custom blinds and shades) and she designed a railing that the contractor made from scratch. She also helped me with sconces and light fixtures. Another major project was turning one of my bedrooms into a home office. I am 6and quot;4and quot; and Joanmarie found a company that made a custom desk to fit me comfortably along with a Bookshelf and Storage Unit. She also waited at my home when the office furniture was delivered and assembled. I am so pleased with my painting in the living room. I get complements from everyone. <br /> <br /> This project has been a good experience for me because of Joanmarie. Most important we have agreed to buy quality from paint to artwork. She collaborates with me and we spend the money in big areas first and now we are down to accessories. All the time I have been going to work. Our next job is finding a chair for my living room, finishing the guest bedroom and planning for my basement. So I will get back when we finish."

"I have never worked with other decorators, but Nick brings the shopping to me.  He has samples to show me or he sends links to pictures.    This has made the process so easy.  <br /> I really enjoy working with Nick.  He is offers great ideas but is flexible when my budget or personal taste requires.  He has great <br /> furniture contacts for reasonably priced, well built materials.  I got a great modular couch that can be reconfigured to meet the needs of the group in the room.  It was Nick's idea that it be modular because it served many functions but  it was also good for getting the pieces into the space. <br /> Nick is also willing to disagree.   I am paying him for his opinion, so that's what I want. <br /> In my experience with Nick decorating is not delivered in a one moment package.   One piece comes,  a little later some other pieces come. Then there is the final arranging and accessorizing and we are done.  It is a bit like completing a puzzle - typically not done in one sitting.  <br /> Nick is also respectful of budget.  It is very easy in decorating to get carried away or make changes that impact the budget.  Nick has always offered me options to stay on budget, and when we veer off it has been my decision. <br />"
