"Nick and his crew did a GREAT job for us. We had a bathroom remodel done by another contractor a couple years ago, and went with an acrylic shower base rather than a mud base. The acrylic base was not supported properly and it squeaked when you stepped on it, which was immensely annoying. Nick came over and gave me a price to remove the acrylic base and install a properly supported mud tile base. This was one of the smoothest home improvement projects I've ever had done. Put simply, Nick and his guys just show up and work. They don't complain about how the last person did a poor job as so many home improvement professionals do. Clean and meticulous - they put down drop cloths all the way going up to the bathroom from the front door and cleaned up the bathroom each night before they left. They also swept up the garage where they were cutting wood. The shower now feels rock solid with a concrete base and my only regret is we didn't call Nick sooner. Last, the whole crew was super nice to my 4 year old son who loves to chat and get in the way, and that meant a lot to me. I will use Nick for any and all kitchen and bath issues I have moving forward - period. I'm already talking to him about replacing the vanity in my powder room. Thanks Nick for a job well done. It was a pleasure having you and your crew in our home."

"Adam Vogel of AMV Remodeling is a meticulous artisan. He can do it all - tile, plumbing, electrical, and on and on. He is extremely knowledgeable about remodeling. He refinished two bathrooms for us - custom tile, faucets, painting - he even installed an oversized whirlpool and kept following up with the manufacturer to get the correct part that was damaged in shipping - he was determined to get it to work. We highly recommend his work. He treats your home as if it was his own. We look forward to working with him again."

"After reading the rave reviewes and calling references we decided to hire Greg to do kitchen and bathrooms remodeling. Based on Greg's presentation and the assurance of the superior workmanship we were excited to get started. Overall they are very knowledgeable and experienced team as far as general construction and demolition. During the bathroom remodel they found mold on one the walls and fixed it . They made sure the walls are insulated and protected against any further damage. Our issue however was they are not very presise on the details: they were waiting for us to come home and check their work and to point out any flaws that they knew i would pick up on. I'm only talking about workmanship quality. Then they'd fix it or explain why it was done a certain way. The tiles in the bathrooms had to be redone a few times on the walls as well as the floor but only after we said it wasn't even. There were few issues with the gasket install in the tub .Then the kitchen cabinets: bottom cabinets had to be level at least three times after they were visibly uneven. We noticed that most of work was being done by Bryan, and Greg sometimes didn't check his work until we pointed It out to him. Jerry was mostly a helper and he did a good job.About a month after the kitchen project was complete the grout on the kitchen floor tiles started to come off in several spots; we are fixing it ourselves. There was one last task (replace cabinet door that was damaged and fix grout on a few backspash tiles that I texted him right after they were finished)Greg was going to come back and finish but he never followed up. Things like that make it hard to give a 5 star rating."

FAQs for kitchen remodel projects in Clay, NY

Your galley kitchen needs adequate clearance around any island installation to maintain functionality. Most galley kitchens lack sufficient width for traditional islands, as these layouts prioritize efficiency in smaller spaces.

If your kitchen has an unusual width, consult with a kitchen designer who can evaluate your specific dimensions and recommend appropriate solutions. For narrower spaces, consider alternatives like rolling carts or narrow work tables that provide additional surface area without permanently restricting movement.

Kitchen remodels require six to 10 weeks for completion, though timelines vary based on project scope and material availability. Simple updates like cabinet refinishing and countertop replacement might finish within a few weeks, while comprehensive renovations involving structural changes often extend beyond two months.

Planning stages add approximately four weeks before construction begins. Maintaining clear communication with your contractor and ordering materials early helps prevent unnecessary delays.

Common errors include insufficient clearance between opposing countertops, inadequate lighting that creates shadowy work areas, and poor storage planning that leaves countertops cluttered. Some homeowners select oversized appliances that overwhelm the space or invest in expensive features that don't address fundamental workflow issues.

Careful planning, accurate measurements, and consultation with experienced professionals help avoid these pitfalls and ensure your renovation successfully addresses your kitchen's specific challenges.

Whether expansion makes sense depends on your home's layout, your budget, and your long-term plans. Combining a galley kitchen with neighboring spaces creates more open, flexible layouts that many buyers prefer. However, removing walls involves substantial costs, particularly if they contain plumbing, electrical systems, or structural elements.

Sometimes, optimizing your existing galley layout through better storage solutions and lighting proves more cost-effective than expansion. Consult with a contractor to evaluate specific costs for your situation.

Effective galley kitchen lighting combines multiple sources to eliminate shadows and create visual spaciousness. Overhead fixtures provide general illumination, while under-cabinet lighting illuminates work surfaces directly. Consider recessed ceiling fixtures that don't protrude into limited headspace.

Lighting with dimming capabilities allows adjustment for different activities. Reflective surfaces like glass tile backsplashes or glossy cabinet finishes help bounce light throughout the space, reducing the corridor effect common in galley layouts.
