"I called Paul, an owner of G & J Home Remodeling, to talk about replacing roofing materials and replacing part of a shed on the back of the house.  Paul stopped that day and looked at the condition of the roof.  He said the shingles on the steepest part of the roof would not leak and didn't need to be replaced for several years.  The materials on the flat roof needed replacing, as did the shingles on the garage roof.
He sent two proposals:  a smaller one for the flat roof, garage, and shed, and a larger one that added the rest of the roof.  We were pleased that he provided these two options.  I doubt many contractors would be so forthcoming.
Paul didn't expect to be able to start the work until spring 2014, but he was able to do the job earlier, in fall 2013 (starting in October).  After part of the shed was removed, we decided to have a storm door installed on the rear.  Paul made a recommendation about what brand to buy, where to buy it, and when the door arrived at the store, he picked it up and had it installed.  The door turned out have good features and was of excellent quality and reasonably priced.
We asked Paul about having rain gutters installed and he recommended a company to do that job.  It was a seamless gutter company highly recommended on Angie's List.
There were a few small issues to fix and Paul saw to it that they were promptly attended to.
The workers employed by G & J were reliable and performed their jobs well.  They left the site clean when the job was completed.  We were very impressed with G & J Home Remodeling.  When the time comes to replace shingles on the rest of the roof, we plan to call Paul at G & J.

Finding someone who was willing to work on a small repair to the cupola of my steep roof was proving to be a challenge until I found Chris Marshall on Angie's List. When I contacted Chris he came to my home the very same day to give me a firm estimate so that I could budget for this repair before winter. His estimate was fair and complete. He was very friendly and personable but what impressed me most was how thorough he was in explaining how he would repair the cupola. I could not believe how carefully and quickly they worked as a team to get this job done. I am so relieved that this part of my roof is repaired. I have programmed his number in my phone for any of my home contracting needs. And he will be the first contractor I call for any future jobs that I have.
