I'm not too surprised, since this is a 40-year-old house and it has never had chimney maintenance. They offered to set up a date to do the work, but there was no pressure. Since the cost is pretty high for the repairs, though, I plan to get other bids before I move forward. In the meantime, Patterson put a square stepping stone over the top of the chimney opening so I would not have rain or critters falling in. That was nice. We just can't use the fireplace until we get this fixed."
