"Really really terrible. Took thousands of dollars and held the job up for over a month ? refused to return a portion of the money his contract states he is not entitled to ? and did a horrible job. Left a huge mess, destroyed my wildflower garden, broke concrete in my garage and on both the front and back patios. The driveway is an inch taller than the existing patios/garage ? and he believes he did a good job. He also broke the entrance concrete to my driveway. He has a lot of excuses and does a really terrible job. He may have good reviews here but Google tells a very different story. Do your homework ? he is corrupt and really bad at his job. "

"Jamie is extremely easy to work with. We had a previous contractor bury our downspouts which was a huge mistake as he used incorrect materials and installed them incorrectly (this guy knew what our concrete project was too as we had asked him for a bid). Before removing the disaster, Jamie talked to us, told us what the problem would be if we didn't remove it and then had to fix some of what this other guy did. We knew he was on the up and up as 3 other contractors had told us the same thing regarding the downspouts. Very professional. The price was very reasonable. We wouldn't hesitate to hire him again."

"Corey and his team did an amazing job with pouring our concrete patio!! The 1st day they removed some existing landscaping and set up all the forms. They made sure to to have extra depth where our hot tub was going to go. The following day the they made sure to cover our deck and three seasons room with plastic so concrete wouldn’t splash up onto it. You could tell the crew knew what they were doing! The concrete pour went so smooth and was done in no time! Before they left they made sure everything was cleaned up and that we were happy with the work. We loved the end results and would highly recommend AmeriCore to anyone!!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Coal Valley, IL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
