"Right from the start everything went like "clockwork". Communications and scheduling were timely and accurate. Marsha kept us informed every step of the way. The estimate for the job was fair and reasonable and we signed on and scheduled the job. Showing up on time, communicating necessary information such as delivery of supplies and job scheduling are important. They followed through perfectly. The job was done in one day, the crew was professional, experienced and very clean. We are delighted with our new patio and we do not hesitate to recommend Exotic Pavers to anyone. So, do yourself a big favor, call them for an estimate...you'll be very glad you did!!"

"Absolutely beyond our expectations.  The guys were very professional, very thorough and did an outstanding job.  The office looks brand new!  We got quotes from other competitors and they were 'over-kill' - recommending the only way to get the scuffs off was to grind down the floors and restain.  That was totally unnecessary.  Our floors look brand new.  Thank you Nobel Concrete!  We will refer you everywhere. <br />"

"We are very glad that we selected Clark Construction for the work at our home including some cement work, modifying our garage to accommodate a new garage door, installing new porch pillars, and putting in new doors. We are EXTREMELY pleased with the results. Matt and his crew pay close attention to the smallest of details which is wonderful. They work hard, and are very courteous. When it comes to their knowledge and skills, it is obvious they are pros. It is nice when things work out as well as they did. We will certainly be repeat customers for any future home improvement needs."

"We spent several weeks looking into concrete contractors and attempting to get bids for a decorative concrete patio in our back yard. We've found Angie's list to be very helpful with all sorts of home services like irrigation, landscaping, gutters and other skilled trades. However, there really doesn't seem to be a lot of feedback on reasonably priced concrete contractors. Most of the vendors we spoke with were either booked out months in advance (and weren't interested in returning our calls), were very expensive or they just didn't appear to be very reputable.  <br /> <br /> When we looked at Bill's website, it didn't appear that someone who would do this kind of work would be interested in driving to the Greater Grand Rapids area and then doing a small patio job.  <br /> <br /> However, we found that Bill was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted someone who had years of experience, took exceptional pride in their work and yet wanted to keep their company small so that they can still do excellent work at a reasonable price. We didn't want the most expensive guy or the cheapest guy on the block. We wanted excellent value and we wanted the work done right the first time. That's exactly what we got with Bill. He was prompt, his crew was very polite and they completed our job in a very timely fashion. Most importantly, the job was done perfectly. We can't say enough about how amazing our new patio looks. All the neighbors are jealous! <br /> <br /> If you are located anywhere near the greater GR area, I would highly recommend that you contact Bill. You will find him to be excellent with decorative concrete, very honest, easy to work with and his pricing very reasonable."

"I emailed a detailed description of the work I needed to be completed well in advance, so they knew what the work would entail. The worker took an hour to go pick up the lumber needed to repair the bay window. He then attempted to cut the piece of tile for the bathroom. He did not have the correct saw with him and broke several tiles trying to use the wrong saw. He then decided to take the tile to his home and cut it on the correct saw. He returned 40 minutes later. Once he returned, the total time to place the tile and cover the opening under the bay window was less than 45 minutes. I was charged for the entire time he spent from start to finish even though it took a lot of extra time due to not having the correct tools to do the job. After the worker left, I discovered that he had damaged my bathroom wall where he removed the baseboard to get the tile out. It was not visible when I looked at the tile before the worker left because I would have had to walk on the tile to see the side of the wall. The worker did not repair the damage, nor inform me that it occurred (the wall was gouged and scraped up). I have contacted the business and hope they will repair the damage, at the least. If they repair the damage and adjust the bill for the wasted time, I will re-review them with a more positive description. I do have a recommendation to the company that if they came ahead of time to see what needed to be done and came to do the job with the correct tools and supplies, the whole process would be much more efficient. <br /> <br />I am updating this review. The business returned promptly and repaired the damaged wall. The owner agreed that the amount charged for the work was excessive and refunded a substantial amount within a few days. I was satisfied with the repair and the refund. The owner did everything he could to make sure my experience was a positive one."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Conklin, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
