"Kirk Roberts did an outstanding job finishing my porch with new windows and walls. He also completed gables on the roof over my front porch and garage entry. His work was superb, completed in a timely manner for a very fair price. I would highly recommend him for any home project."

"Pete and Barb were outstanding to work with. We replaced a large carpeted room with unfinished birch and it looks incredible. Very happy with the outcome. Pete installed, sanded and finished it all on schedule (even with a small subflooring setback, that was unknown to all of us prior). There was minimal dust from sanding. Pete worked very hard to complete all work as promised, staying later into the evening to get it done. He was very detailed, thoughtful and respectful of the room/our home. Barb was very thorough in answering questions and communicating and both she and Pete were very easily accessible to answer any questions. Overall a great experience and will hire again!"

"Reasonable pricing. Experienced, thorough, professional countertop service from quote to template to installation. Only downside; granite dust. But, nothing is perfect. This was a close to perfect as possible."

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
