"Mad City had to come out 5 times. They didn't get the right base size for a new shower. We had to without a shower for almost 3 months. When they finally completed the job, it was great. It simply took them too long to get it done right."

"If Dan Brown Construction had a motto it would be "Professionalism, Thoughtfulness, Pride and Respect". The crew showed an immense amount of professionalism when it came to preforming the work at hand and made sure that every step of the way that I was informed of any and all potential future issues if any at all. I was also given many ideas of future projects and ways to increase my homes value. Overall I would highly recommend Dan Brown Construction to any and all friends and family alike. "This is a great company to work with. Our project involved tricky design and construction issues and was complicated by the fact that there were certain elements that we were determined not to change. Upscale worked with us to develop a vision and a specific plan - from the major elements down to the trim - and implemented it beautifully. There were a few problems with subcontractors and we were so appreciative that Upscale held them to account for high quality work -- we did not have to complain, Upscale insisted that the work be done right. For high quality, detail and service oriented work we wholeheartedly recommend Upscale Remodeling!"

Have worked for a large company and covered 23 states since 1996. Missed being home, tired of over pricing people. No job is TOO big or TOO small. Distance isn't an issue for me. Quality work, reasonable prices, insured, with warranty and most jobs. I work alone for most of the jobs and will pull together a trusted crew when needed for larger jobs. I WILL NOT BREAK YOUR WALLET!! That is my motto, I stand by it.

"Estimated completion was 2 weeks, it took 4 months. Workers were always different when they showed up. Roof had some overlaps that are unsightly since they did not measure correctly and didn’t take the time to do properly. New eaves that they installed leaked all over the place and they did not come back to fix though they claimed lifetime warranty. Some installed at wrong pitch to drain. Asked for money to pay along the way on job to pay his crew. Agreement was half down and the rest on satisfied completion. I held back $500 to see if he would come back and button up problems. He would not. Gave him many opportunities to rectify. Always had excuses and would not rectify issues. Always on vacation or sick, etc…."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Cortland, NY

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
