"Grady did an awesome job! I've dealt with many shady contractors and Grady is nothing like them. He's honest, dependable, fair, and will be upfront with you. I never once felt like he was just trying to "get one over on me" because I'm not knowledgeable about these things. He is clear about telling you the why behind the cost of materials and labor. And he gets it done right the first time. In a world full of shady contractors, he's a breath of fresh air. And he's once of the nicest people you'll ever meet!"

"Jason just completed a big, long fencing project for my family. It involved coordination with several neighbors also. Jason did a great job and was very conscientious about all aspects, including straight lines, sturdiness, eye appeal, and organization from prep, the steady professional work with communication as needed, and thorough clean-up. We would certainly hire him again for our next future project!"

"Working with Elite Enclosure was a awesome experience. Adam and Jameel were informative, professional and responsive. The day they showed up to do our projects they immediately went to work, prioritizing tasks to get the most done and and set up a date to come back and finish. They were both meticulous, hardworking and efficient; not to mention polite. Do yourself a favor and call these guys for your next project, you won't be disappointed!"

"ER Renovation did a PHENOMONAL job on our full kitchen remodel. The owner, Ethan, was beyond pleasant to work with. First off his skills are second to none, the man really does amazing work. For the work he subcontracted out that was all done beyond our expectations and Ethan was involved with those steps as well. Ethan even made suggestions for things like lighting that I didn't even consider in my original plans and the suggestions he made were all PERFECT. Ethan kept in touch every step of the way when information was necessary, he did so via text, e-mail and by phone, and in cases where necessary even sent pictures so I had a visual of what was being discussed. He promptly responded to any questions I may have had in a very timely manner and was always professional and beyond courteous. One of the best parts about the whole project is that ER Renovations price came in at much less than the other competitors I took bids from, in one case, $20,000 less (I won't name names, but that company is well known in Salem and they take advantage of people's needs so be cautious). I ABSOLUTELY recommend ER Renovation and Ethan for any remodeling project or other type of home projects needed. My wife and I could not be happier, our very old and dilapidated kitchen has been transformed into a beautiful 21st century kitchen that adds to the overall whole house looking nicer. If you have home remodel/repair needs, look no further than ER Renovation, you and your wallet will be so glad you did. Thanks to Ethan and ER for the amazing job you did and we'll be calling you in the future for a bathroom remodel for sure."

"Grady met all our expectations above and beyond! He performed every duty with the utmost professionalism. Always on time, and met our every wish and need. He even took it upon himself to install an extra security rail so our 14 year old nearly blind doggie wouldnâ t fall off the edge of the deck. His craftsmanship is superb and heâ s also just a really nice guy! We highly recommend Grady!"

"Bradley is great to work with - he's personable, professional, and good at his job.  My ground floor deck was destroyed in an ice storm year ago and removed.  Had Bradley and his team rebuild that deck using artificial wood.  The upper floor deck was intact, but in poor shape.  I intended to have them replace only the flooring, but Bradley pointed out several structural deficiencies and convinced me we needed to rebuild the entire deck.  The expense was daunting, but having a reliable structure that is likely to outlast me, and never having to resurface it again makes it worthwhile.  The pump house was just old and falling apart.  Bradley and his crew tore down the old structure and build a new one without any disruption in service.
All of the old material was hauled away, and they did a pretty good job of cleaning up after themselves, though I did have to clear some debris after the un-used materials were picked up by the hardware store.

"We highly recommend Berper Construction LLC. We listed our project on Angi and literally 5 minutes later we received a call from Gerardo to set up an appointment to look at and give us an estimate. He came over that same day and sent us a bid the very next day. We accepted him and his team to do the work and just over a week later once we got our funds together, they began working on our project and were finished in 2 days! He was very thorough explaining what needed to be done and sent us pictures from Home Depot of different items we needed for the job and let us pick out exactly what we wanted. Always on time, very kind, and honest which is much appreciated. Gerardo made sure that he did the job exactly how we wanted and never did anything without getting our approval first. We love our 9x9 pergola over our hot tub, thank you Gerardo, Edwin, and the rest of your team! We will definitely call again for other projects in the future! :)"

"Leland and Steve arrived promptly to give us an estimate of the work. After we engaged them, they returned on-time, with all appropriate paperwork, including a detailed contract and the legally required information regarding our rights with respect to contractors. They described what they were about to do and why, the possible things that could go wrong, and what they would do if they uncovered any additional work to be done. They discussed the timetable for the work, and made a number of adjustments to accommodate our schedules. They kept us regularly informed as the work was progressing, and when they encountered additional dry rot, they stopped to consult with us and prepared a revised estimate. I am a lawyer and my partner is a scientist. We are persistent and detail oriented, but with no more contracting knowledge than the average homeowner. Leland and Steve were relaxed with our questions, not defensive, and gave us all the information we wanted and needed. Everything they told us checked out with the people we asked for second opinions, and what we could discover on-line. Their work looks great. They completed the work in heat and with the "help" of inquisitive homeowners and bouncy dogs. They were good-humored and easy-going. They responded helpfully and cheerfully to the questions about other work we had, even though we made it clear that we wouldn't be undertaking all that work anytime soon. When they found that the shower pan was leaking, they gave us several estimates about how to remediate that dry rot and gave us estimates on each alternative. They also gave us a competitive bid and a better solution to our roofing and attic heat problems than others we consulted. When we decided to install attic vent fans we went to them. In fact, if we could keep them on retainer to put this 60 year old house back into perfect repair, we would."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Corvallis, OR

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
