"The plumber arrived and spent 6 hours trouble shooting water heater problem on newly constructed home. He was good and identified problems and took action to correct, but could not fix water heater issue. He discovered there was not enough power, so he could not charge for his efforts as he did not fix it. He offered a $16 and some change monthly service plan to help with costs and I agreed, but he genuinely tried his best including replacing two heating elements. His company brought two electricians who were here for 1 hour and charged over $300 to report there was a break in the wire and did not repair. Next day the builder of the house brought his electrician for 30 minutes, made repairs finding 3 wires leading from breaker box, but only 2 leading to water heater. He diagnosed a junction box somewhere was embeded that the 3rd wire went to. The two remaining wires had been accidently crossed and were wired wrong to the water heater. He corrected that and was done in 30 minutes."

"We had an "emergency" on a Saturday morning where multiple toilets were backing up.  That condition prompted us to look for a plugged main septic pipe out to the tank or the septic tank itself had become overloaded with sludge.  We called Lex-Rooter around 9:30am hoping they could get to us today (and we live in the next county NE of Lexington.)  They were here within a couple of hours.  The service technician, "Nate", quickly identified that the main septic line was "full" and we either had a plug at the outlet to the tank or the tank was full.  We pulled the cleanout drain cap on the septic tank; the effluent was at a normal level.  So "Nate" correctly concluded that we had a plug in the main line. <br /> To get the most-direct clean-out route, it worked out best to pull up one of the other toilets in the house.  "Nate" did that very quickly and with no mess.  Then he started the drain cleaning process.  Unfortunately, what he found was a surprise.   Apparently the main pipe from the house to the inlet on the septic tank had fractured at some point (it's Schedule 40 PVC put in about 24 years ago) and some roots from a foundation bush had grown in there and allowed a root/dirt ball to form.  "Nate" 's drain cleaning device couldn't cut all the way through that mess but did open it enough to allow liquid to flow freely. <br /> So the good news is that we can use the bathrooms albeit watching how much water (and TP) goes down the drain for now.  The bad news is that we'll need to excavate that pipe and replace it which is more than Lex-Rooter does. <br /> But we were grateful we still had use of our facilities and that Lex-Rooter was prompt, professional, and conscientious particularly on a weekend.  "Nate" even gave us a little break on the price since he could "solve" the entire problem.  <br /> We'd definitely use Lex-Rooter again for a drain problem. <br /> <br />"

"Went well with water only being shut off for a short period of time during installation of new plumbing. Due to some modifications and some miscommunications, took 2 days to be completed. Great people! I would hire again!"

"No problems with the quality of the work or the time it took, but it was surprisingly expensive. So much so that I almost regretted having the work done. The plumber found the shut-off valves inoperable and began replacing them without telling me about it or the additional cost. I should have looked over his shoulder more often and asked more questions, but I did not. Any repairman beginning additional repairs without asking really rubs me the wrong way and leads to a "B" rating at best and a "No" on hiring again. Learn from my mistake: make certain that you do your research on pricing and agree on a price range and scope of work with Geiler (or anyone, for that matter) before they begin the work."

"I called Randy regarding a plumbing issue and had a limited window for repairs. He came at the end of his work day to fit me into his schedule, completed the repairs and left my bathroom as clean as when he walked in. He also gave me recommendations for other repairs. I would highly recommend him and appreciated that he gave me a fair price for his after-hours time."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Danville, KY

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
