"Added a parking pad alongside my driveway to allow for offstreet parking for all our cars during the winter. also widened the driveway to eliminate tight curve of existing driveway and eliminate accidental driving on lawn. Aurora Asphalt met with me, heard my problem, and offered an excellent solution. Upon completion the new driveway matches very well and looks as if it was all part of the original installation."

"Jim called back within hours of me leaving a message, and insisted on coming out to take a look at the damage prior to providing an estimate.  My driveway had holes and cracks that I knew needed to be repaired, and i called 3 other companies before contacting the Asphalt Company.  One insisted i neded a new driveway without looking at it first (and quoting $3500!), the other never even called me back.  The third quoted me on the repairs, but they weren't on Angies List, so I thought i would try one more - definitely glad I did!  Jim came in at the same price as the other company, but the responsiveness and quality of work were much better.  Even after the job was done, he came back to patch up a smal hole my wife made when her heel sunk into the soft asphalt. <br /> <br /> Excellent work, great responsiveness.  Price could be better, but in all honesty, i don't have a lot of experience with asphalt work - so it seemed fair when i looked around.  Definitely cheaper than the new driveway the first company wanted to do! <br /> <br /> Would definitely recommend The Asphalt Company, and I will use them again."

"I did not know if my driveway could be seal coated or if I needed a total replacement so called Dave and asked him to give me an estimate. He came to my house and said he would be able to seal coat it but that I had to remove the self adhesive asphalt repair fabric that I had put down over the years. He scheduled the job for about 5 days later. I removed the fabric and discovered that I had a crack that was at least 3 inches wide. I called him on the phone and left a message as to what he would be confronted with when he came to seal coat my driveway. When he arrived to do my driveway, he informed me that he had brought a bag of 'cold mix' to fill that large crack. It did not take him very long to seal coat my driveway, even with filling the cracks, less than 45 minutes.."

"Tear out team arrived on time  and removed old asphalt driveway. They then installed and leveled three inches of new base. The next day it started to rain and did so for about three days. The installation date was moved out to allow everything to dry properly. Things did not seem to dry out, so the area supervisor came back out and determined that there was too much clay beneath the new base, He had his crew come out and remove the new base and clay and reinstall the base again. In a few days everything dried properly and a new asphalt driveway was installed. The driveway is 16 feet wide and 60 feet long. I am very pleased with the finished job. I would highly recommend them. <br />"

"They did the job and seemed to really take seriously issues such as drainage etc. They were out to check on the grading before paving and decided it needed to be re-graded in areas. Workers were easy going and open to any questions we had. Would definitely recommend. <br />"

"The two gentlemen from Advanced Construction Services were there early (nice surprise) and got right to work after explaining what they would be doing and approximately how long it would take. They were professional and took care to clean up after themselves. They used a dried limestone to fill in the void under the segment of our driveway; compared to other companies who use a sand-based approach. By using dried limestone, it provides better protection from further sinking. It took them less time than they thought and in the end, the driveway looks great. They even went beyond what they originally quoted and caulked an extra seam in the driveway. They explained follow-up care and what to watch over the next few hours and says. All in all, this was an excellent experience performed by professionals."

"Modern Roadways responded immediately to my request for an estimate for the work to be completed.  The estimate arrived in the mail on or near the day promised and the work began shortly thereafter.  The crew that installed the driveway addition was very professional and meticulous in laying the asphalt.  The workmanship and attention to detail was outstanding.  After the work was completed, the owner of the company stopped by to check the work and asked about our satisfaction with the workmanship.  I have used Modern Roadways on another project which also was done extremely well.  If I had another project, I would hire them again."

"Summer 2014:  <br /> Though intended for Plehal Blacktopping, this recommendation applies; to three companies that did excellent work for us but, especially with each other, in coordinating competing projects: Andy Pietig Concrete, Plehal Blacktop and Rain-Man Irrigation.  <br /> The job was very complex for Plehal Blacktop:  to install an asphalt driveway to match paver-borders where each project needed to be done ?before the other because ? it also needed a ?Gap? cut into the new asphalt for a paver-sidewalk that separated the replaced driveway and a new asphalt section called a ?Patio?, where matching 'before and after' elevations, between pavers and compacted asphalt, was no small trick. <br /> We are on a circle, which makes driveway edges, curves or bends meet other sections at odd angles that must both do the job and look like it was 'done on purpose'.. <br /> I?d planned to personally instal 1000 pavers but then, I was struck ill and limited to ?doing nothing? for about 3 weeks and had to call in Andy Pietig Concrete, that had done excellent concrete and paver work for us about 2 years ago, installing a paver patio + concrete pad.  <br /> Andy (who was extremely busy at the time) worked us into his schedule and coordinated with Plehal Blacktop regarding the interlocking sequences for installing pavers and blacktop and then later cutting a ?paver? gap into the new asphalt extension. Plehall did the excavation and Class V fill, which Andy?s guys then shaved to 'paver-height' for sand-fill plus snap-edge on inner and outer faces.  <br /> They VERY CAREFULLY LAID CORNERS WERE CUT EXACTLY AS PLANNED. We have received numerous  compliments from neighbors and even passersby, stopping on our circle to ask who?d done the work.  I?ll take credit for layout and paver-pattern designs but not for the excellent execution by Pietig and Plehal. <br /> Plehal's asphalt work was PERFECTLY ROLLED to meet the paver-heights -- and pitched for good drainage in three directions. <br /> Andy?s team was expert at matching block patterns around bends and corners and at meeting points with a garage sidewalk and the ?Gap?, a 15? ?sidewalk? separating a new extension from the replaced driveway. <br /> Without our mention, they replaced a handful of damaged or imperfectly cut blocks, even returning more than once to clean up details that only they had noticed. <br /> Special mention goes to Andrew, Andy?s Team Leader, an extremely conscientious expert, whose detail work, experience and artistic eye showed everywhere. He returned more that once to finish or touch up details. <br /> So, in a difficult period, when we really needed help, to get a long-planned job finally done, Plehal was extremely patient with our plans and delays and Pietig stepped up politely and frequently to get everything accomplished.  <br /> Their final product looks excellent. As it turned out, one of my neighbors had used Plehal, commercially, many times and was quite pleased with our choice.  <br /> Merged into all of this was a previously planned IRRIGATION PROJECT that impacted every edge, which required burying PVC pipe deep under the fill base, to carry irrigation tube, phone and cable lines. Again, the layout was mine and their execution was better. <br /> Irrigation work (including a clever and complex design) was accomplished by Luke, Shane, et.al. from Mr. Rain Irrigation. They worked smoothly around the congested ?work area? and came back several times, to adjust sprinkler locations and head-heights after the pavers and sod were installed. Again, they were at least as responsive, thorough and cooperative as Plehal and Pietig and their quite varied layout and design had to solve a dozen, problematic, narrow, triangular or sloping-wedge areas. <br /> We have long considered, planned and designed this year?s work and, to finally get this all done, with this high level of service and finished quality, we could not have chosen three companies better equipped, skilled and managed! <br /> Bill D."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Delano, MN

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
