"Cornman Concrete and Paving did four projects at my new farmette: installed a new gravel parking area at the side of my house and concrete walkway to my front door, regraveled and regraded my badly damaged driveway, installed gravel in a grassy area next to my barn to allow trucks to deliver, and installed a high traffic area pad for my horses. All done quickly and exactly as I had hoped!"

"I had a concrete patio installed, and I love it. Malco landscape is a very professional company from start to finish. I was kept up-to-date on everything as needed. The process was very seamless and Bob was wonderful to work with. I would recommend Malco landscape to anyone!!!"

"Perfection Construction replaced my 60' rotten wood retaining wall using a masonry product. The wall is now doing it's job again, and it looks fantastic. They leave the completed job site clean, and they are fast. I'd contract with Perfection again without hesitation."

"I had to purchase material needed for the repair prior to the guy coming which wasn't ideal since I wasn't 100% sure what was needed but I got it close enough and he took the area apart and patched it up and gave me very clear instructions on what to do to give it the best chance of lasting (second coat of paint and checking the caulking in a few weeks). Very helpful and it turns out that all of the leaking, including what I thought was seeping under the wall, was from this area of rot and we've had no more problems in the 10 months since the repair was done. Thanks!"

"Reggie Armstrong is quite congenial and smooth. 1st visit, he insisted we just  have coffee and chat - getting to know his customers is how he does business. He's a talented conversationalist &, I thought, a good listener.  He kept the conversation steered away from the project despite the fact that I was excited & had clipped photos in several books and magazines.  In the last 1/2 hour, we went out to the yard, he looked around, had a vision of where things should go and what I'd need with some input from me. His large gestures for the size of beds and paths were an exaggeration of what was produced, but that cannot be proven.  My priorities were clear: greater privacy, aesthetics, and less to mow.  He persuaded me that I would need to extend my budget to get a beautiful finished project, so I agreed to raise the ceiling, but hoped to avoid spending too much. I foolishly agreed to give him a $5,000 retainer to make sure I was scheduled before summer. He scheduled me for about March 21st-25th, which seemed early for planting.  In early February he texted me that we'd have to reschedule to some time in April because the temps should be about 65 degrees.  Being a professional landscaper, he had to realize this when I signed the contract. I told him that I wanted the path from back to front of house that he'd talked me out of instead of a large football shaped area in back being dug out and graveled for the fire pit.   In the course of this nightmare, Reggie brought the wrong trees that were to be the feature of the job and lied to me about the store being out of stock.  He refused to pick up when I verified the store had 9 at 2 locations within 5 miles, saying he didn't have time, only scheduled 4 days for this job. I picked up trees before work  myself & was told by the nursery NOT to plant that week because temps were in the 40's with snow expected that weekend! I never cursed or screamed or called names, but was naturally irritated with his defiant attitude. Instead of apologizing for the mistake or trying to make it right, he was miffed that I hadn't praised them more for the work they'd done on the garden beds.  As I was leaving for work, now late,  Reggie approached me & threatened to walk off the job after 2 days, saying he already had $5000 in the job & they didn't need to work under stressful conditions !!??? Note that at this time, the gravel, bushes and perennials were not there, no lights, fire pit  To my amazement, he proceeded to scold me that he would've gone after the tree if I'd said "you must have mis-heard me." (about my choice).  The man caught himself in his own lie because he had already told me he got the (wrong) trees because that was all the store had- a flat-out lie!  He also tried to tell me that the nursery sold him a tree with a tag marked "Red Dogwood" and insisted they told him it was a pink one, which I'd specifically requested to plant for my late mother.  I later discovered he even lied to me about the gravel, telling me that the store was out of the white gravel we discussed- 2 days later, I spoke to the man who waited on him- he was incredulous, showed me the huge bin, and signed a paper verifying the gravel had been in stock all along.  On the phone, Reggie had proposed an "organic looking beige stone", never mentioning a difference in size, & I agreed, thanked him for calling me to discuss; later that afternoon he texted that they were finished & I was "definitely going to love it."   When I got home after a doctor appointment, there was clearly no effort to clean up and make the finished >$5000 project look special, no sign of a solar landscape light or the fire pit we agreed on.  Front & center was a rag hanging over a large pot I'd offered them to use, an old hose, used to suggest a border, was sprawled along the yard,  the 5 trellises he was to install for privacy stuffed beside my rusty shed, which was now a feature of the property, bordered with decorative stone and mulch; there was no gravel between the shed and the path to the door, just oddly thick pads and paths of larger stones, with no less than 35 large stepping stones, when I told him I intended to make my own stepping stones for the path with molds or mosaics. Less than 3 weeks later I have big weeds.  The entrance to property had no gravel- if he misunderstood this, which I did point out on first day, why would a pro leave a project looking like a patchwork quilt without discussing?  Why spend time on trimming the lilac bush and a bed along a fence and leave me without privacy when that was the goal? And not even mention the reason for not installing the trellises, but ask for more money- for a sloppy, embarrassing looking job. He would never have pulled this with a man in the picture. I will include photos.  The path did not even line up with the step to the porch. He should have amended the original contract if he couldn't abide by the changes, but he neither fulfilled the written or oral agreements and called it done.  To call this a disappointment would be an understatement- there was no reason for it to turn out this way- for well over a thousand dollars a day?.  I paid him a lot in advance, was very excited about this, bought them food & drink and treated them with respect.  I was taken advantage of!  After several difficult years, I was overwhelmed with projects and put too much stock in getting him through Angie's List.  No doubt they advise not to pay too much up front; my mistake.  Advice- use marking paint to clearly mark anticipated borders, get drawing, verify everything.

Small jobs welcome

"Trevor and his crew did an excellent job installing a concrete pad for our hot tub. He and his crew first had to remove existing foliage before the concrete could be poured. He was even able to save some as a buffer from the neighbors, Trevor and his crew were friendly and polite, willing to discuss what and how they were approaching the job. We would highly recommend Matthews Construction and Trevor Matthews and his outstanding crew. I would certainly hire them again if I ever need this kind of work done."

FAQs for retaining wall installation projects in Dillsburg, PA

With proper design and construction, stone retaining walls can last anywhere from 50 to 200 years. They're built to withstand soil pressure and environmental factors, especially when reinforced with geogrid and constructed on solid foundations. Using quality materials and skilled professionals ensures your retaining wall will be durable for decades.

You can choose between natural stone and stone veneer for your project. Natural stone offers timeless durability and character, while stone veneer provides a sleek, modern look and is lighter to install. Both options are strong and provide good drainage. Consider your budget, maintenance preferences, and design goals to decide which material is best for your wall.

Choosing the right masonry professional is key to ensuring your stone wall stands the test of time. Be sure to check that the contractor has valid licenses and certifications, and a strong track record of quality work. Look at their past projects and read customer reviews. Meeting them in person and getting detailed quotes will help you make an informed decision. Taking these steps will help you find an expert who can build a sturdy and beautiful wall for your home.
