"Very impressed. Beware they are booked out a couple of months but your patience will be worth it. Showed up on time for every appointment along the way, important to me. They have their own dedicated employees, no subs, and bring in all the trades depending on your needs; plumber, stone guy, carpenters, etc. Everyone was very friendly, great with tips to do things better than you had planned and accommodating of changes. This is my first ever Angie's List review, but I am a real person and would recommend this company and will personally use them again for some bathroom work I have planned. From my wife: workers cleaned every day during the week and a half of working in our house, she was impressed and thankful for their diligence. From my dog: Thank you for the friendly greetings every morning before you started work, made my day. Part 1 of 2 review Project is 75% done, had to remake some cabinets due to changes I made during the job, will share before and after pics upon completion."

"Everything was done on time, even finished before due date! All workers were professional, friendly and trustworthy. All did excellent work; I have no complaints whatsoever. Steve designed the bathroom for me, and worked with me to choose all of the tile, fixtures, and cabinets. The general contractors, Dan Turman and his son Mike Turman were awesome -- they made sure everything was done perfectly. I had plastic plumbing, so a special plumber had to be hired - Cory W. -- he was awesome as well. Another fabulous father/son team, Derek & Jason Dill, installed the tile, which is beautiful -- they even did a special touch with a pipe they had to work around and made it look like a tiled column. I'm very pleased with all of the work. The shower glass walls & door look great too."

"It came out beautiful, finished the job faster than promised. He did such a good job I brought him another chair to do. Kris is a craftsman who loves what he does. He took us on a tour of his shop that he is very proud of. We enjoyed visiting him and will return with future projects."

"Dream Line rescued me after two separate other contractors jilted me and left me with a mess. They helped to design and rebuild a beautiful bathroom. Charles and his team were very responsive and always addressed any questions or issues I had very quickly. I already have a list of other projects the guys can start on next!"

"insurance co. paid for removal & installation of new vanity, contractor bought wrong size cabinet [he had size of original one].I had a sprained ankle & could not go upstairs to see vanity. they did not tell me it was wrong size .  when I found out we could not re-install  toilet paper holder [also covered by insurance] is when I found out it was wrong size. I called sub contractor and told him it had to be removed and same size as original vanity had to be installed. contractor called me and said I picked the vanity & I would have to pay to remove it .  I did not pick or see it before they installed it and was never told it was wrong size and I refused.contractor then said , " this is the size they are putting in  bathrooms today,] I said the insurance paid for replacement of original vanity & that is what I needed. he was very angry. also he was to install new water inlet lines. he did not use a plumber to install the first vanity and sink they brought, he used the drywall person and had him use the original solid copper compression lines from original vanity. they were to short and he could not get the faucet to stop leaking water. he kept tightening the nuts on to my original faucet and finally stripped the faucet  threads. he came downstairs and told me what happened and said the faucet could no longer be used and I would have to buy a new one.  I bought a new one and told rick [contractor] what happed and he refused  to re-pay me for faucet . [$50.00]. then I received a new contract with a higher amount , & he re-worded the vanity  from original remove and replace to remove and reset, and added owner was to purchase vanity,  when I told him I was not responsible for the replacement because the insurance co. had included the cost in the contract, he kept saying  "i did not charge you for a vanity in my new contract  so you are responsible for the cost." I could not get him to admit that he was already paid for the vanity cabinet in the insurance quote. I also called my insurance  and told her what was going on and she said  I was correct . the contractor was to pay for the vanity. then he gave me a separate contract for an additional amount of $2,522.80 and wanted a check from me  to cover the water extraction & remediation . I told him that was also covered in contract by insurance. and had nothing to do with me.  some of the work in bathroom was shoddy and had to be re-done. also in his original contract he put me down as paying for floor tile.  also covered by insurance. "JJ was professional, punctual, talented, well informed and he goes the extra mile. He totally took the stress off our shoulders with hurrying to paint rooms in a time crunch before we moved in. He rearranged his schedule (more than once) and even showed us how to do a lot of fix ups around the house. I’m hoping to book him later this week to do more!"

FAQs for cabinets refinish projects in Dixon, IL

To find the best cabinet refinishing expert for your project, start by researching local pros and reading reviews from previous customers. Reach out to a few contractors to discuss your cabinets' size, condition, and the look you're aiming for. Don't hesitate to ask for references or examples of their past work. Speaking with previous clients can give you valuable insights into the pro's workmanship and reliability.

When speaking with potential cabinet refinishing pros, consider asking them several questions to gauge their experience and professionalism. These questions can help you gauge the pro's experience and determine if they align with your needs.

  • Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

  • Can you create custom finishes or colors?

  • Do you have examples or samples of your past projects?

  • Are you able to match the finish to other cabinets in my home?

  • How long will the project take from start to finish?

Regular care will help maintain the beauty of your cabinets for years to come. To keep your refinished cabinets looking their best, follow these steps:

  • Use gentle cleaners: Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. A simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap works well.

  • Clean carefully: Instead of spraying solutions directly onto the cabinets, apply them to a soft microfiber cloth and wipe gently.

  • Protect from heat and moisture: Try to minimize exposure to excessive heat or moisture, which can affect the finish over time.

It's usually less costly to refinish cabinets than to replace them, depending on the cabinet condition. Refinishing cabinets cost an average of $3,114 while replacing cabinets is about $5,000 or more. When deciding to refinish or replace cabinets, consider several factors, including how old your cabinets are, your budget, and whether you need to complete any other renovation projects at the same time.

It may be worth resurfacing (also known as refacing) your cabinets if they’re in good shape but you’re interested in a different look. This is often less expensive than replacing cabinets outright and can allow you to update the look of your cabinets to reflect your kitchen’s current style without having to get rid of them entirely. The cost to reface cabinets is around $4,300 to $10,000, and you can hire a local cabinet refacing pro to handle this work.

Refinishing cabinets takes about two to three days to complete. The process begins with removing cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware, followed by cleaning, stripping, and sanding the surfaces. Any chips, stains, or splits are repaired before applying paint or stain. After applying the finish, the cabinets are reassembled, and the workspace is cleaned up, leaving your cabinets refreshed and renewed.
