"Turner Concrete did an excellent job overall. They took great care in protecting my existing concrete driveway as well as my deck and three season room floor adjacent to the new patio. They placed plywood over my lawn for the path of the skidsteer that was used to haul the gravel and concrete from the road to the new patio site in our backyard. This prevented any significant damage to my lawn. The site was cleaned every night before they left. They placed rebar at all of the key areas prevent future cracks and tied all of the concrete into any adjacent concrete placed previously. I was kept informed on their schedule and any impacts that were caused by the weather. The work was completed within the timeframe provided when the estimate was given.
"

"This is a very tough grade to decide on. I've had experience with concrete providers in the past and it's rarely been 100% good. It must be a tough business to be in. Generally, they all seem either good at laying concrete or good at running a business -- rarely is it both. My primary requirement was to find someone that did a high quality job at a reasonable price. Concrete is just one of those things that HAS to be done right the first time.
My new house completed construction in March, 2015. Before it was even done, I poured through reviews on Angies List and came up with 3 possible providers that all had received good grades in the past. I called each of the contractors and received quotes over the winter/spring of 2015. Each was relatively responsive when it came to providing a quote. The contractor that I was most comfortable with, Dahlgren, provided a quote that was over 20% more than the next 2. That ruled that particular contractor out. The final decision was between Wendt and Nygren.
Pricing was very similar and their explanation of their process and suppliers was similar. When it came down to the final decision, I chose Wendt mostly out of gut feel. I just trusted him right off the bat.
I'll start with the good. Matt is a nice guy and extremely thorough. He does very high quality work. I talked with him a couple of times while he was setting up or inspecting a pour. I was impressed with his knowledge and how many times he would measure the same exact thing to ensure it was correct. I learned a lot about concrete from the man. Now that my driveway is in, I'm extremely happy. I had a very screwy driveway (due to rules imposed by the local dictatorship). He worked around it. There were many challenges along the way and each time, he would find a very acceptable solution. Bottom line: If you want the job done well and at a reasonable price, he is definitely worth exploring. For those that had the same criteria as me, you can stop reading now.
It wasn't all sunshine and kittens. While the end result is most important, I could not, in good conscience, give Matt a straight out A. Pre-job communication and scheduling were horrible. As I mentioned earlier, I had Matt out in February to provide a quote. he delivered that in a reasonable timeframe and followed it up with a call a few weeks later, while I was still making my decision. That was all good. However, when I made my decision and provided him the signed contract, we agreed that he would tentatively schedule me for the end of June -- that was sometime around March/April, I believe. Seemed like I was pretty safe scheduling for a couple of months out and had beaten the spring rush. I didn't hear from Matt for quite awhile. I figured he'd give me a call once he was a couple of weeks out. Mid-June came and there was silence. I decided to give him a call. He explained that he was running behind and had some personal commitments that were also consuming a healthy portion of his time. All of this was understandable and I wasn't in a rush, I just wanted to plan appropriately.
The end of June came and went and I did not hear a thing. I called Matt again. At this point, it was generally taking him about a week to return my call. I was beginning to worry that he was either going out of business or just wasn't interested anymore. When he got back to me, he told me it would be about 2 weeks before he'd get out. I know this was a few weeks past my original scheduled timeframe but again, I was in no rush, just wanted to make sure I didn't have to restart the process and find a new contractor (good luck getting a concrete contractor in the middle of summer).
July passed. Then August was well underway. I would call every couple of weeks and I was told they would be getting started in a couple more weeks. This may have only happened 2 or 3 times but it was enough that it seemed like it was going to go on forever. Ultimately, it threatened to impact the landscaping I had scheduled for early September. Who knew that 2 months was not enough cushion to build in.
Finally, in late August, his crew showed up to my house to prep for the driveway. There were a couple of guys and they put in a few hours of work and left. They showed up a couple of days later and repeated. Finally, Matt showed up on the 3rd visit and fixed everything his crew had done. Apparently, there were issues with his crew. In the end, Matt and a young kid (teenager?) knocked the whole thing out. I think this might have been a blessing because it was obvious he made sure things were done right.
When it's all said and done, it was completed at the very end of August and it took 3 pours. Might have even gone into the first day of September. Again, I can't repeat enough what a good job he did. It's just the other stuff that was frustrating. Since the quality of the work was the most important thing to me, I'm satisfied. I would probably use him again but only if I didn't have a tight schedule.
"

"Don and his staff did a really excellent job. It is clear that he is a perfectionist. This work required about 4 days to complete, and, to be on the safe side, we are planning to leave the garage empty for 3 more days before moving stuff back in. He is professional, honest, neat and cares about the quality of the job they do. You could eat off the floor now!"

"I was looking for a crew to pour and finish sidewalks and slabs that I had formed. Jim Muckerheide showed up within a day of my request to discuss the job and quote. As soon as weather permitted, his crew arrived and did the job. He has a very professional crew and the work was excellent. Jim was a pleasure to work with. Contractors like him are hard to find. He treats his customers like family."
