"Long time from discovering roof damage due to hail to having the roof replaced, but SJR was there for the entire process working with my insurance provider and keeping me updated. Once the approval came in and the weather permitted, the roof was replaced (had the gutters done also) very professionally and very quickly! The job was completed as advertised and as expected. The follow-up inspection was completed in the same professional manner and any concerns/questions I had were addressed and/or answered. Thank you SJR to giving me the piece of mind by having a roof that will last longer than I expect to be around!"

"Premier Exteriors replaced our roof and gutters. The entire process was very smooth and work was completed as explained. We wanted Timberline HD Shingles for our new roof and were pleased to learn Premier Exteriors is an authorized GAF roofing contractor with a VA Class-A license. Kudos to Samantha and owner Ricardo for being responsive and keeping things simple. The level of service received was exceptional. The install team did an excellent job ensuring the work was done on time and the worksite was safe and free of debris and nails. I highly recommend Premier Exterior for your next roofing project."

"Nick Perkins came out today and offered a very thorough assessment of our current 20 year old roof. We discussed current condition, material pros and pricing, and labor. While our roof has another couple of good years left, I will definitely keep Style Roofing Inc in mind when it’s time to replace!"

"Mr. Marshall is a dependable straight shooter. He replaced some shingles over the years and told us the roof would last a few more years without replacement. (He did not try to push a full replacement before we really needed it.) After the last major windstorm, it was time for a full replacement. Again, Signature roofing's price was excellent, materials top notch, workmanship was great, and cleanup was complete. Mr. Marshall was personally on-site overseeing his crew, some of whom have been with him for over 20 years."

"When you meet the President, Mark Collins, you immediately know this is a decent guy. He's not a salesman; he will not try to talk you into anything, especially something expensive. He will explain your options and he will help you see pros and cons, but never pushes you toward a particular thing or "upgrade." He's extremely responsive. He follows up on the job, even after it's completed, to make sure everything went well and the area is clean of debris. The crew is conscientious and respectful. With A&M Roofing we got a trustworthy company, fair pricing, responsiveness, flexibility, and a great roof. They even had to work around or attic fan and solar battery. I can't recommend A&M Roofing more strongly. You'll have peace of mind that it will be done right, and you're not being gauged."

"Needed to replace our 20 year old roof. Timothy's installed the last roof for the previous owners. Called and Russ came out the same day. Felt he gave me honest advice about what needed to get done. No pressure tactics. Got another quote from a reputable company and Timothy's quote was better by about $700. We decided to replace the flat roof and gutters in addition to the main roof. Signed the contract a few days later and Russ and his guys installed it 3 days later. Install of both roofs and the gutters was completed in 1 day. Very happy with the result and looking forward to a worry-free and reliable roof."

"TL;DR. We had Roofer 911 perform a complete roof replacement, and we couldn't be happier with the cost (even though Insurance covered it), the speed, the help with homeowners, or the quality. Steve, and the workers, were incredible to work with. Details In January we got "hit" with a round of people telling us everyone in the neighborhood needs a new roof because of hail damage. Of course, I didn't really buy it, and brought in our insurance company and a different roofing company. We did, indeed, need a new roof, and our CertainTeed shingles had a design flaw so that everything needed to be replaced. After a few concerning issues with our roofer, including that they wouldn't send an estimate and instead would "work with insurance", we turned to Roofer 911 for a third opinion. I found them after reading Yelp reviews, and chose them based on the amount of repair work they've done, and that they've been in business for over 40 years. I couldn't have made a better decision. As mentioned, the CertainTeed shingles on our roof had a design flaw, and the reviews online were not very good for the newer models, so I wanted some other options, knowing I would have to get it approved by our homeowners covenance committee. After I emailed the company, Steve replied within the hour, during the weekend, and came by the next day to confirm that we had problems. He also dropped off three sample shingles, two GAF which match the color of our current shingles, but have a longer warranty and better reviews, and one which was our current shingle for comparison. I was able to bring these over for the covenance committee to review and approve the new shingles. I also received a detailed digital contract, listing the cost and amount of each part as well as the cost of labor. Roofer 911 was the only company that did this, and when I asked about it from another company I was told they'd work with insurance, so I had no idea what was actually going into our new roof. We scheduled the replacement for about 5 days later (a Saturday). Friday evening we returned home to see the materials placed and ready to install, and they started around 8 Saturday morning. We had a bunch of workers, and they were done within about 12 hours. I'll say, replacing a roof involves a LOT of banging, so we found ways to leave the house. But we felt incredibly safe with the workers, and they were really focused on getting the job done well. The caps over the ridges cover more than the previous caps did, and the roof in general looks excellent. They cleaned up absolutely everything (which is amazing based on how much mess we saw during the process), and you wouldn't even know they had been there. When they finished the work the head worker came over to make sure I was happy with the work and the cleanup. We haven't had a hard rain yet, but so far everything looks more solid than it had before we got the roof. I'll certainly update if we run into problems. Throughout the process Steve has been incredibly responsive and honest. He's made clear that he wants us to be happy, and is genuinely interesting to talk to. I've already referred Steve to my in-laws who had damage during a recent wind storm I really can't recommend the company enough if you're looking to get your roof replaced."

"Tom was a great partner for this project. He came out right away, and was consultative in his approach. He walked me through the failures in my current roof, and even did a quick repair to stop the leak that was the reason for my initial call. They had the old roof off and the new roof on within a day, and the new gutters went up the next day. Looks great!!"

"I contacted Roof Solutions after we discovered a water coming through an upstairs light fixture. Eric came out and discovered a missing slate and unsealed nail hole along the roof ridge. Rather than just replace the slate and reseal the ridge, Eric proposed a cap along the entire ridge to prevent future occurrence. The finished product is attractive and blends well with the roof."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Dulles, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
