"Great service. Professional crews with specialized skills. Explained every step of the process. Paid careful attention to the weather and temperatures when deciding best dates to do the work. My questions were answered patiently. Clean-up was terrific too."

"Overall, great.  They gave me a bid that was $2000 less than the nearest bid (total cost was about $3700).  They needed to add some class five fill then smoothed it out and put the asphalt down in about 3 hours.  The prep took 2-3 hours.  I also asked the company if they could do some bobcat work for me outside of the driveway and they charge $75 an hour - which is a really good price.  They moved boulders, dirt, flattened out some areas and worked really quickly.  Later, I needed about 15 minutes of help and they just threw it in and didn't charge.  I was really pleased with the driveway. <br /> The only fault I think is that because of the weather at the time (rain) they got about 1 week behind, so their initial start date was much later than what they had told us.  It was hard for them to nail down a day till the day beforehand, which was important to me as I wanted to be there for the whole procedure.  I wasn't able to, but it turned out great anyway. <br /> I paid half of the fee beforehand then I paid the next half in two payments over 2-3 weeks.  Due to some unexpected car trouble, I didn't have the cash to pay the whole thing upon completion, but they were understanding and patient.   <br /> I plan on doing some more blacktopping next year and will have them do it.   <br /> I was rather disgusted with some other companies that wanted to charge $2000-4000 more than KTM.   <br /> The workers were courteous and helpful and let me be somewhat involved, which I appreciated.  The owner made the bid...a good guy too. <br />"

"Nick came and gave me an estimate on a Tuesday and took the trees down the next day. This was part 1 of 2. He will be installing a fence, removing a concrete patio area and fixing the really ugly flower beds. He has been very helpful through this whole process. Because of his prompt service I have hired him to do some tree work at my rental property."

"A drunk driver crashed into our house in the middle of the night.  JBenson arrived within 2 hours of having called them for emergency board up service the next day.  They sent a crew of 4 (plus an electrician that arrived later).  After reviewing the damage, they said they could just board it up or fix the structure.  They removed all broken pieces to the structure, reframed the corner, placed sheeting and tyvek and cleaned up the glass around the site.  Their electrician (a sub) ran a dummy line through the broken outlet so that we could turn the electricity back on to that part of the house. <br /> The cost listed above is an estimate based on the 5 hours of work.  I have not yet seen the claim so I did not rate on cost. <br /> All of the team was very professional and courteous.  We are waiting for a final bid to see if they come back to finalize the work. <br />"

"What impresses me most about Darryl and the boys is how quickly they respond to anything!  In our previous home when it was a year of possible freezing systems due to lack of snow, Darryl was out on a regular basis checking on it without us even calling!  I called and left a message last night around 9:30 pm when something funky was going on, not even knowing if it was the septic and they were out before 8 am checking on it.  They are patient, listen to even the dumbest of questions and give great answers...they just take such pride in their work and back it up so well that it is amazing!  I highly recommend these guys if you are thinking of putting  a mound system or having anything done with septic!  <br />"

"The work was completed in a timely manner as agreed. Larry Shelton personally oversaw the project as manager. The time controlled panel took a period of time to synchronize the amount of water we used and as such sounded the alarm a few times. Each time I called Larry Shelton he came right out to the home and responded to the issue, tweaking the control panel. Mr. Shelton approached me during the work and stated "since they had the track hoe in the back yard he would pull several stumps that were in the near vicinity of the project at no additional cost. Once the work to the septic was completed the track hoe operator plucked the stumps from their place and tossed them into the woods. This created a much larger "re-seed" area than would have been required with just the septic repairs. After the ground settled the men returned to complete the re-seed portion of the project which required several truck loads of dirt due to the pulling of the stumps. The men were careful not to make tracks with the heavy loads of dirt and I was very happy with the results of the re-seed. I was totally impressed by Larry Shelton personally which was indicative of his company overall. Even after the project was completed and paid in full any time I called the company with an issue they responded quickly to remedy any issues."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Duluth, MN

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
