In Brooklyn, New York I had the opportunity of learning the various techniques of piano restoration from old-school master craftsmen, including the knowledge and use of the various materials involved in restoration work. These master craftsmen imparted in me the knowledge of traditional methods of wood working, and old-world recipes for finish. Alongside these craftsman, I began practicing and learning the art of restoring antique furniture. I worked for a time at Steinway & Sons and learned many of the secrets about working with these instruments. During these years and in these workshops, I also learned the techniques of French polishing, color matching, gold and silver leafing. It was in this workshop that I learned first-hand from Steinway and Sons technicians about the art. After many years of experience in these workshops, I opened my very own well-equipped restoration shop in Copiague, New York. As owner and founder of E. C. Restoration Company, I'm capable of virtually any type of piano, furniture, antiques, restoration, rebuilding, repair and refinishing. Today, E. C. Restoration also specializes in the modern spray-type finishes to old-world lacquer and French polish, all completed with a care and professionalism that invokes old-world traditions of strength and quality. Many of the secrets of these finishes and coloring agents have been passed down by several generations of craftsman to me directly, and are neither known to anyone nor available anywhere else.
