"I'm not fully moved into the home yet, but I will update when I am there permanently. The crew was very professional, worked diligently, cleaned up after every day of work (three day job--french drain expansion, two additional sump pumps installed, window drains into the sump pumps, pretty extensive job)."

"In the last few years, we've been getting huge puddles of water all over our basement floor. Never happened before. Some stretched all the way across the floor. Took hours of work with a shop vac to suck it up and days for the floor to dry. In mid-September, we hired Once & Done Waterproofing. They had the lowest price and specialize in our kind of problem. Work was completed in just one day and very tidily done. Very hard-working crew. But it was a leap of faith waiting to see if that work would be successful. Didn't rain for weeks after the sump pump system was installed beneath our basement floor. Weâ ve now had two really heavy rains. The floor remained bone dry after each of them. A little bit of water still did come in at the base of the outside basement entrance, as expected, but it got no further than the drain they installed in the floor at the door. The real test may not come until next springâ s monsoon season. But so far, so good. Based on preliminary results, I would not hesitate to hire them."

"Jared showed up on time and went right to work. Installing the back up water powered sump pump and new sump pump seemed quite involved to me, but Jared said it would be no problem to do it. I am completely satisfied with their service, and responsiveness. H. L. Bowman is now the only plumber I will use for all of my plumbing needs."

"I signed up to have a modular log home built on an existing foundation. The builder had a number of specifications that needed to be met to get the foundation ready for the new house. I contacted 8 other companies, but no one could help me with my long list of tasks. When I finally got ahold of Highlander Waterproofing, I started by telling them I was a problem child. I listed all the work that needed to be done and Mike told me that nothing on my list sounded sounded scary. I got a couple of visits from Mario, the manager, and Mike, the senior engineer, and one of their senior job bosses. They were all knowledgeable, helpful, positive, and suggested that I use steel supports instead of concrete to save space. Work started in August when Dewey and JT started knocking off the top 2 courses of block. "The Gents" - Dewey (the job boss) Devon, Jimmy, Matt, and Dave - did wonderful work. Because of Murphy's Law, we had to knock some walls down and rebuild them because of bowing, and we ended up adding an internal French Drain. They set rebar, poured tons of concrete, dug footers, put up steel support beams, installed glass block windows, put down sill plates, and rebuilt the front where the garage doors will be. I cannot even begin to say how pleased I am with the work they did. And they were a lot of fun to boot! They let me video them daily, tease them mercilessly, and they had the good grace to laugh when my dog made off with their breakfast jerky. There is still some work to do when the house actually gets here in April - insulating the outside wall, backfilling, putting the sump pumps in, rebuilding the center wall, and digging footers for the porch. I have absolute confidence in Highlander Waterproofing and "The Gents." I would recommend them highly and with no reservations to anyone who needs foundation work. I will add to this post with the final pictures in April."

"Great job, replaced old draining system from previous owner and placed a French Drain around the basement alleviating my water issues. Only issue I had is that they removed a 1 yr old Sump Pump and never gave it back after my request numerous times. That's been at least 3 months ago. Good group of guys!"

"I spoke with Fred over the phone and asked him if he did free estimates since I needed a garage roof to be looked at because it was leaking.  The garage belongs to a rental property that I have which was  not rented at the time so I was not in any hurry to get it looked at.  Fred said he had a few jobs to do, but would try to take a look at it that week.  I gave him my cell # and I left on a two week vacation.   Upon my return, Fred calls me apologizing for not getting back to me.  He was very honest, and I frankly told him I had also forgotten about the estimate with my vacation plans.  After that, we were always in contact either through the phone or emails. He always responded promptly to me.  He first saw the roof from the deck of the house which was on a higher elevation and gave him a good view.  He gave me an estimate of $325 to repair a loose flashing, detached gutter, and to seal any holes that might be causing the problem.  I gave him the job and a check for the deposit of 30% of the total cost.  I met him at the property on the scheduled date of the repair, but unfortunately,  once Fred got on the roof, he realized that it was in worse shape than what he had spotted from the deck.  I unlocked the door, we went inside, and he inspected the ceiling and discovered some of the wood was rotten as I could visibly see.   It would be a major repair that I could not afford at the time.  We spoke at length about the garage and when we finished, he immediately said he would write me a check for the deposit I had given him.  I did not even have to ask him for it!  After having very bad experiences with various contractors when I renovated the rental property, it was so refreshing to meet an honest man!  I will definitely give him a call for any other work I need done. <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in East-texas, PA

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
