"I hired Peace Construction to pour the foundation for my new driveway. The guys with Peace Construction were highly dependable, provided quality work and the price was unbeatable. The owner was very knowledgeable and kept me informed every step of the way. My neighbor admired the work and inquired about this company’s contact information. I would definitely hire them again!"

"We had a wonderful overall experience! Tony is knowledgeable, punctual, reasonable and professional. I wish we could rate him higher than an A! He deserves extra credit and a grade of A+++. Tony stayed on top of his crew to make sure the work was perfect. He also came by the house again after the crew left to make sure it was all done to our liking. We are very impressed by his work ethic and we appreciate his dedication to making sure that we had an excellent experience. I will definitely contact Tony again for my future projects. If you are searching for a contractor, there's no need to look any further...Tony is the best!"

"We’ve been real pleased with them. It’s a little family run business and they do an excellent job. They are actually coming out next week and we use the sentricon bait system, so they would be coming out and checking the bait system. We’ve been real pleased with them. They are a termite protection, so we use them on an on-going basis. What they do is they maintain it, but they come out several times a year and check the bait stations. We have a contract with them, so it’s an on-going contract. I think they come every 3 months. They check the little bait traps every 3 months. We pay $3,500 a year for our termite protection. We’re pleased with the price and the quality. If we’re not pleased with people we don’t use them. If we use them they’re an “A” or we don’t use them anymore. We’ve been using them on-going for several years."

"Although Fairrington Concrete had not done the foundation preparation in advance of pouring and stamping a large patio (another contractor that had constructed the retaining wall and stone work had agreed to do this for Fairrington), James agreed to come back and break up a 25' by 10' section, remove and dispose of it, and pour and stamp new concrete in it's place. Over 4 working days requiring six workers (on and off) the finished product matched perfectly with the rest of the patio. His expert in concrete stamping, Kevin Brown, is a true artist. My $900 contribution towards this repair represented the portion that was never paid by the other contractor that failed to compact the base foundation. <br /> Bottom line: James Fairrington stands behind his work and will do his best to come back and make repairs on work that later requires some repairs. I highly recommend him for concrete and stamped concrete work. <br />"

"Hunter Houses did an outstanding job. Had 2 acres of land cleared. The work was done within the scheduled timeline that we agreed on. I will definitely consider Hunter Houses for other projects. His price point was reasonable for the work he did. Hunter Houses delivered."

"I think his name was Bo.  He was right on time in a clearly marked company car and a uniform.  He introduced himself and asked about my concerns.  I showed him all of my concerns and he did a complete inspection of my foundation including a 360 degree walk around as well as 100% of the crawlspace.  The entire time he was explaining what he was looking for.  The final conclusion was that the drywall cracks were not a foundation issue just typical settlement/construction on the "long" walls of the house.  he noticed a place where water pools close to the house and suggested I get that fixed to prevent damage in the future.  With the 100% free inspection done he was on his way and I was relieved not to have a bigger issue, and pleased with the service provided. <br />"

"I had 2 bathrooms that needed work. The smaller bath needed a new shower pan and I was told by several other contractors that the whole shower would need to be demolished and retiled which would cost several thousand dollars. Tony and his crew took out the bottom tiles, replaced the shower pan and matched new tile to the old tile. This was much less expensive and I am happy with the result. The other bathroom had extensive structural and plumbing issues and had to be completely taken down to the studs. All in all, the job took several weeks and I got to know Tony and his crew very well. They were often there when I was working, and I never felt uneasy about them being in my house. They were kind, polite, hard working people who did an excellent job in my bathroom. The end result is a gorgeous bathroom and I am confident that it is structurally sound and it is plumbed correctly!"

"I contacted this company regarding a basement, shed and hard scape project. James responded to my call promptly, came out and discussed the project with me in detail within a couple of days of my request. He was very personable and professional. He was also attentive to the details and answered every question I had regarding the process. He made a second visit with Mike to ensure all the details of the project were covered before an estimate was provided. I appreciated Mike's time, patience and professionalism. He was very knowledgeable, candid in his assessments and offered professional advice that was more cost effective than one of my original ideas. Despite their great service and professionalism I decided to use a company highly recommended by a neighbor, because (1) they were able to present the project to me in a 3D visual format that ensured my ideas were being communicated and understood (2) I was able to see one of their finished products (3) my neighbor highly recommended this contractor. With such a large project it's hard to know for sure if what you're asking for is what you will receive as an end result. I'm sure M Dillon would have delivered on a great product but, it was nice to see my ideas in a format that allowed for immediate changes/clarifications. My meeting with this company came after my visits with M Dillon. Regrettably, I had to take up some of Mike and James' valuable time without compensation. It was only fair that I write this review to let everyone know what a professional M Dillon and his staff was during their visits to my home. He remained a true professional even when I told him of my decision to use another company, asking how he could have improve on his service. I would recommend M Dillon based on my experience and will likely use them for future home improvement projects. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Elgin, SC

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
