"When I saw my refinished oak floors for the first time, I cried tears of devastation. After paying over $6000 to have the floors in my newly purchased dream home refinished, I came home to find footprints in the stain, chatter marks, pooled staining along our baseboards, and splotchy stain throughout. I have honestly never seen floors so poorly finished. We had the company return to fix the most egregious areas of the home but could not even bear to risk having them re-do entire rooms for fear that they make the flooring even worse. The company was very kind and easy to work with... they just dont have the skillset required to do quality work. We are already saving to have them re-done by another company in the future."

"We renovated our entire home and had Renaissance Flooring do all of our hardwood on main floor and carpet in bedrooms and basement. We dealt with Latif during the selection process and Victor the installer and both were great to work with. Highly recommend Latif and would definitely use him again if needed!"

"Aaron Goodman. The owner of AG Construction is very polite, responsive, helpful, resourceful, honest and easy to talk to. His team headed by Cesar is exceptional. They are very thorough, skilled, polite and friendly. I was able to pick out the flooring online or at ProSource Flooring . This was also a positive experience. I now have beautiful vinyl plank flooring and hardwood stairs of excellent quality installed in a very timely fashion and at an incredibly fair price!! Steps were also refinished to match the flooring and they look great. Aaron also completed an excellent job in my father’s house with wood floor refinishing and wood stairs. It was beautifully done. My sister highly recommended AG Construction to me."

"Floor repair team came in on the weekend to get the repairs done before the kitchen install began that Monday. They refinished a floor that the prior owner had had refinished. That job didn't get the stain and finish under the heating registers. Premier fixed that without even being asked. Shoe moldings were skillfully cut. Floor repairs are seamless. Floor looks brand new. Scheduler called ahead so I would know who was coming and when. I would hire Premier again in an instant."

"I love my basement now! They removed all of the asbestos flooring, adhesive etc. and installed my new floor in 2 days. The employees were very respectful and worked efficiently. They had said 3 days but they hustled and did it in 2."

"<p>Contacted BR Flooring for an estimate and met with Wesley (owner).  He promptly provided 3 estimates as requested; the prices were reasonable compared to the other estimates.  Based on his rating and the initial meeting, I hired him.  He stated that the work takes 2 days to complete and he and his crew will arrive between 8:30-9:30 to begin work.  But on the first day, my concern was raised when only one worker showed up – no one in charge to explain the logistics of the job.  I was concerned because there were a very large and heavy china cabinet and that needed to be moved.  No way can this lone worker move this furniture.  Feeling badly because he had no help, I found sliders so the furniture doesn’t need to be lifted.  He and I moved the furniture.  He was kind enough to help me remove the numerous items from the room and the cabinet.</p> <p>On the second day, I expected workers to show up between 8:30-9:30 since that was the time that was given.  Instead, they showed up at 8:00am.  I let them inside, but then one of the workers wanted to get to the fuse box.  Again, no explanation was given on the process.  My concern was raised again when he thought that only the existing floor was to be sanded and stained.  I informed him that the new floor had to be sanded in order to match with the existing floor.  Why did I have to tell him that?  This detail should have been communicated to the workers.  My concern was the handling of the heavy furniture and who was to return it to its original location.  So I called Wesley and he explained that someone will have to return the next day.  I was perturbed by this because I’ve already taken 2 days off work and wasn’t plan to take another.  He sounded irritated – not sure if he was having a bad hair day or just didn’t like a woman asking him questions.  His behavior was far different from behavior that I encountered during the initial meeting.  </p> <p>In summary, this may be my first time in contacting someone to perform this type of work, but I have expectation as a customer.  I expect the process to be explained to me in advance or at least that day.  I shouldn’t have to keep on asking for the process.  I am not your friend and I didn’t get the work for free so when you take my money, you should show some respect.  Then he had the hubris of sending me an incorrect invoice – one that costs more than originally stated.  Luckily, I requested everything via email to avoid any dispute.</p> <p>The workers did an amazing job and I would hire them, but I would NEVER work with Wesley again.  Very unprofessional and argumentative once he was hired.  I went through Angie’s List to avoid people like him.  There are other people who will offer fantastic work with reasonable prices without the attitude.  Hire someone else to avoid the aggravation.</p> <br> <br> <br>"

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in Ellicott City, MD

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
