"I'll preface this review by saying that, normally, I'm fairly reserved and reluctant to give more than the most basic comments.
This service was provided by Michael Anderson, an excellent pro; he gets an A+ in every respect. Based on my interactions with him on this particular service call, I give Mike Anderson my most gushing, glowing, and enthusiastic approbation. He went the extra mile for me, and demonstrated superior effort, knowledge, experience, dedication, professionalism, and integrity.
We had an old mobile home (manufactured in the early 1970s) that we were in the process of selling, and its original Coleman furnace stopped working. Of course, this came at the most inopportune time, as I was in the process of negotiating the sale, and my profit margin was already looking tight. The pilot light on the furnace just would not stay lit. I'd light it and turn up the thermostat, and the burner would come on, and everything seemed fine, but when I returned later (that day or the next), I would find the house cold and the pilot flame extinguished. Mike came and diagnosed the problem, and told me that the thermocouple probably needed replacing, but that it might need an entirely new gas valve. He pulled valve unit and made a couple of attempts to replace the thermocouple, noting that the existing one had a crack in it. Unfortunately, replacing the thermocouple actually made the problem worse, because after that, the pilot light wouldn't even stay on.
After those attempts failed, he removed the valve again and gave the whole thing a good cleaning. That helped a little, but, in the end, the pilot light still kept dying within a minute or two. He explained that the internal moving parts eventually would just wear out, and that he'd seen this numerous times in the past. He said that because the furnace was so old, it was often difficult to find a replacement valve, but that he'd call around and see what he could find. He didn't get back to me the next day, but the day after he did, saying that he'd located a suitable replacement. He came and installed it, and to our great relief, the replacement unit functioned. In the end, while parts and service ended up costing us over $350, a replacement furnace would have dented my wallet to the tune of about $2200 more than that!
On top of this, I've called PPM a couple of other times for estimates and/or help with a possible problem, and they've always done a pretty good job. As of the time of this review, they've stopped charging an initial first-call diagnosis fee.

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"Replaced the thermostat. Our old one had issues and became difficult to program. (Very inconsistent.) I bought a new upgraded one (supposedly easier to program) for $55. Porch installed it relatively quickly and did a good job. Very personable. The installation cost for roughly an hours work was $178."

FAQs for appliance (smaller size) installation and replacement projects in Emory, UT

Garbage disposals last around 10 years when properly maintained. If your unit is getting close to that age or repair costs are increasing, it might be time to consider a replacement. Regular maintenance and careful use can help maximize your garbage disposal's performance and help it reach its maximum lifespan.

There are several signs to watch for that indicate your garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Replacement may be necessary if it doesn't work even though it's properly connected, the blades are worn and causing delays in operation, a persistent foul odor that won't go away, or leaks coming from the bottom due to a compromised seal. If you're experiencing any of these issues, it might be time to consider getting a new garbage disposal to keep your kitchen running smoothly.

A plumber or handyperson can install your garbage disposal if the electrical connections are already in place. If you need additional electrical work, you'll also need to hire a qualified electrician to handle the rest of the job. Hiring local professionals ensures the installation is safe and up to code.

It’s important to avoid putting certain items down the drain to keep your garbage disposal running smoothly and avoid clogs. Expandable foods like pasta, rice, oatmeal, and bread can swell and cause blockages. Coffee grounds, grease, fats, and oils can accumulate and create clogs. Hard items such as meat bones, nuts, and fruit pits can damage the disposal blades. Eggshells, potato peels, and fibrous vegetables such as celery, pumpkin, corn husks, artichokes, onion skins, and asparagus can wrap around the blades or obstruct the pipes.

Not every sink is suitable for the installation of a garbage disposal. The compatibility of the sink with the disposal depends on the material and structural integrity. While many standard sinks support these units, fireclay sinks are prone to cracking under the added stress and should not be used. Confirm that your sink can securely accommodate the disposal before installation.

Choosing the correct size garbage disposal depends on your household size and how much waste you produce. A 1/3–1/2 horsepower unit should be sufficient for households with one to two people. If your household consists of three to six people, a 1/2–3/4 horsepower unit is recommended. FA3/4–1 horsepower model will be necessary. For larger households of five to eight people
