"Eagle did a great job replacing the siding on our house. Good communication from start to finish. Project costs were competitive. Installers were punctual, professional and cared about the quality of their work. I would definitely work with Buck and his team again."

"The entire roof was done in one day. I was satisfied with the workmanship. Except for the flashing around the chimney - which was subsequently redone w/o any hassle. The gutter covers (LEAFPROOF brand) were installed after the roof. I was concerned that they may not handle a large amount of rain, but we had a torrential downpour shortly after and they worked great! I should have had these installed years ago - no more cleaning out the gutters. Our neighbors also had LEAFPROOF installed (also by Lakewoods) about 10 yrs ago and have never had a problem or needed the gutters cleaned out. Roof: $10,000 Leafproof gutter covers: $3400"

"This is the second time we hired J & B Roofing to work on our house. We had 35 year old deteriorated Masonite lap siding. The old siding was removed, a layer of insulation was installed, along with Tyvek House Wrap under the new siding. J & B Roofing supplied many color samples for us to select from. Our house has brick on the lower 1/3 of the front. We had J & B Roofing install vinyl siding that has the appearance of hand split shakes above the bricks to the soffit. We installed vinyl dutch lap siding on the sides and back of the house. The gable ends of the house & garage had the dutch lap installed at the same angle as the roof line. Ever challenge we presented to J & B Roofing was met with the response, "WE CAN DO IT". When the job was completed, once again the entire area was cleaned up of all debris. Whenever we need any repairs, they will be our first call to see if what we need done, they are able to do. We are very satisfied with them and highly recommend their services."

"Project was removal of all old siding from our house and replacement with a combination of new vinyl siding and rock.   Included new soffit and fascia as well as replacing rotten wood areas where required.
Excellent service from the quoting of the bid through completion of the project.  Company owner was onsite for a time everyday (and usually twice a day) to check on progress, deal with problems, etc.  Very good communication throughout the project.  Timelines that were set for completion were met.  The work crew was hard working and respectful of the property.  Very thorough walk through with the company owner at completion of the project to make sure everything was to our liking.   We would definitely recommend All American Exteriors and would use them again.

"Great! MN Window and Siding has done several projects over the last 10 years for us in our mid 50’s Rambler. They replaced our Sliding patio doors in the Family Room, Picture Window in the Living Room, and 2 other windows-one in the kitchen and another they enlarged the opening and installed a crank out in a bathroom remodel we had done last year. The vinyl windows/patio doors they use are from Alside and are excellent quality. After the hail storm here in Bloomington in 2013 they replaced our roof. We had many color choices to choose from and the roof was completed timely and was great quality. Jim worked with my insurance company and the project went smoothly."

"
  1. The company representative was very helpful in dealing with the insurance company, and in obtaining payment from the insurance company for the damage done by a recent hailstorm. The price I was quoted for the roofing job was within the insurance company's estimate, and the only additional cost was for add-ons that I requested. The crew showed up on time, had all the necessary materials delivered in a timely manner, and did a very nice job of installation. The owner, Steve Heinz, was very hands-on, and made sure I was satisfied with the work done by his crew. He was accommodating in handling the additional work I asked for, and replaced some discolored siding at no cost to me, as it detracted from the look of the work he did.  As I sold the home shortly after the work was done, I cannot comment on the long-term performance of the roof, but it looked perfect after it was finished and gave me no trouble during the time I remained in the house. I believe the new roof and the additional cosmetic work done by Start to Finish was instrumental in the subsequent sale of the property at full listing price. I was so satisfied with the work that I have had Start to Finish estimate another project for me; I would have hired them to do that job, but decided not to proceed with it as we chose to move to a different property instead. I would recommend this company, and have done so.

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Faribault, MN

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
