"Water started leaking from a bedroom ceiling… Even though the leak was probably coming from the chimney flashing, I knew the roof was old enough for replacement. Based on their stellar reviews and clean record with consumer affairs, I called Four Seasons to make an appointment and get an estimate for repair or replacement. Although it was Dec. 31, Bill showed up on time, something I have found lacking with other construction people over the years. He was cordial and knowledgeable, and not aggressively pushy. I felt comfortable. Having done my own research, I found his price to be reasonable, not the cheapest or the most expensive. My main interest was workmanship quality and over the years have found cheapest is not usually the best, nor is most expensive. His crew arrived within 10 days, and on time. Their work was one of the most professional I have ever seen. In fact, when they were finished, my property was cleaner than when they started. After they left, you wouldn’t even know they were there. The leak is repaired and the new roof is beautiful. I highly recommend them."

"Very happy with the quality, timing and price. Good communication as well. The old roof had to be removed from both the main house and detached garage. The house had multiple layers of shingles that needed to come off and the garage also had the original cedar shingles in addition to the many layers of asphalt shingles. It was very messy getting the old roof off but the crew was really good about cleaning up. At the end of the first day the yard was a clean as it was before the work started. The entire job took only two days and the crew was able to start work the same week I signed the contract. Because less plywood was used than was quoted, the final price was even a few bucks less than the contracted price I agreed to. So overall I am very happy. Was a really smooth and easy project compared to past home projects."

"They were at the midpoint of the three estimates we got.  We chose them not only because of their prices but the presentation was very thorough, explaining in detail what we were paying for. The other estimates just had general descriptions.
It took two days to complete the roof and gutters and at the end of each day they cleaned up after themselves. We've seen other roofing projects in the neighborhood and  witnessed houses that look like a war zone for days, we were pleased that was not the case with us.

"Excellent job Dominick the owner was on site to oversee the job. He was responsive to all our questions and concerns. He inspected the roof and showed us pictures of the damage. I also went up on the roof myself and saw the extensive damage to the T&G roof deck firsthand. They replaced all damaged T&G boards and installed the best shingle and storm guard available, GAF Timberline HDZ anti algae shingle & GAF StormGuard leak protection . They did an excellent job at a good price. You get what you pay for and we got the best! Thank you Dominick & the D&S roofing crew! We love our new roof No more Leaks!"

"I called the top two rated Angie's List companies in my area of Brooklyn and both responded. Topline quickly viewed my home and sent me a bid along with additional suggestions. I asked for and received another manufacturer's white vinyl shake siding and it was a perfect siding match (the original siding company is out of business). The second company was difficult to reach, but eventually responded, but with a bid a few hundred dollars more than Topline. I selected Topline and they arrived exactly on time on the day they said they would. They worked quickly and neatly, removing my old siding and installing to perfection my new siding and corner posts. They swept up completely and also cleaned out the debris in my gutters. The work crew (3 men) worked quickly and were very polite. During the early stages of the work the owner showed up to observe how his crew was performing. Very professional. In the end, it was an excellent job at a fair price. I recommend."

"Our experience with Thermosiding was absolutely incredible. Not only are they expert craftsmen, they are also the hardest working, kindest, most patient men you would ever want to work on your house. They arrived every day between 9 and 9:30, and rarely left before 6:30pm. When we were unsure about something, they took all the time we needed to explain what they were doing or show us different options, so we could make a choice. Their number one concern was to make us happy, and they definitely accompished that goal. We chose light gray siding and blue shutters, but what made our house different was our request for red trim around different areas of the house to make it really stand out. Paul, the foreman, walked down the block with me so I could show him a house that had the look I wanted with the trim, and he said "No problem." It was enormous amount of extra work for them, but they never complained. It came out absolutely beautiful, our house looks magnificent. I loved the crew so much I baked them chocolate chip cookies and brownies. The next day, the boss, Peter, knocked on my door at lunch time and said "You cooked yesterday, I cooked today!" In one hand he had a plate of delicious baked eggplant, and in the other a delicious tomato salad with feta cheese and onions. And, an entire loaf of italian bread. Several times during the construction process Peter cooked lunch for the crew, and always had a plate for me. That's just the kind of guys they were. When they were just about finished with the job, my husband walked around to the back of the house and saw Paul working on some screens. He asked, "What are you doing?" Paul replied, "I'm replacing all your screens that have paint on them." That was practically every screen in the house, since the last painter we had was a slob. We certainly never asked Paul to do that, and we were not charged for that. Again, a beautiful act of kindness on Paul's part. I was sorry to see the job end because we will definitely miss the crew. I hope a million people stop by our house and ask who did the work. It will be my pleasure to recommend Thermosiding."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Farmingdale, NY

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
