"We purchased a foreclosed home that had been empty 2 years AND we lived out of state. We called at least 10 companies for estimates, 6 companies showed up and 4 submitted written and/or verbal estimates. Ryan and Associates estimate was the lowest and we were impressed that they showed up when they said they were going to even though this was over Thanksgiving week and someone was available by cell phone to answer my questions about the estimate. The work took 2 days, the workers were friendly and very professional and they took the time to explain what was being done. They answered questions I had about some other items I had been working on at the property. They also left the property very clean and the original salesperson came back to make sure everything was running smoothly and that I was happy with the work. We are extremely happy with the quality of work, the expertise of the workers and would definitely contact them again."

"The construction workers tore up old concrete at the end of my driveway and replaced it with new concrete at a different lower angle so my car wouldn't drag on it.  They replaced 3 sheets of sidewalk and the curb.  These workers have done other jobs at my house under the owner's supervision.  I have always found everyone to be courteous.  Concrete work is weather dependent. The previous owner refused to overbook and have too many projects going at once.  His crew completed the jobs though sometimes end dates were extended.  I consider it professional when a company like Behncke Construction refuses to rush a job and thus lower the quality. <br />"

"Price quoted was lower than the others to perform the exact same work. They arrived when they said they would, they cleaned at the end of each day and thoroughly after the last day. We have a large roof and it took 5 days. The only issue we have is not with Iossi directly. The company that delivered the supplies cracked our driveway and we were told by that company that they will fix it but after a couple of phone calls we still have a cracked driveway ."

"Poured December 5, 2018... stated they would flare the approach. At the most the flare is 3" on each side. They said they would backfill & seed. After several people went off the drive way and my twisting my ankle I called to ask WHEN they planned on doing that. They came & threw a dab of dirt down, never spoke to me & where gone. My garage door which was about 2 years old was damaged when they were digging and he assured me they would fix that. One section of the concrete cracked clear across. I notified him immediately of the crack & sent him a picture. It is now June and I have never heard from them again. I finally called & he said he would be there to replace the one section on July 8th. Funny how he wanted payment the day they finished pouring. They covered it with tarps... I had to keep putting things on the tarps because they kept blowing off and I never heard from anyone... just one day the tarps got removed. My garage door has still not been fixed. It not only dented 3 panels of the door but pulled a mounting screw out and slams down. I feel as a single woman I have been taken advantage of. I have used many bags of potting soil to bring the dirt up to the concrete and am still not finished, let alone having grass there. At 70 yrs old I did not expect to have to do this much and to have to nag to get things finished 6 months later."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Fenton, IL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
