"Overall good experience. The tank I wanted was available from their stock locally, so this was a quick turnaround. The new plumbing pipe was installed to my satisfaction. The only issue was that the installer mistakenly set the nominal (to code) temperature incorrectly (higher than it should have been). As I looked through the owners manual for the water tank, it was clear that the manufacturer offers a number of different thermostat styles, and for my tank, the nominal position is different than for other tanks. This was an easy fix for me (turned the dial down). I let the company know by way of a mail-in survey card that they sent after the install. <br />"

"Called Marv's specifically because they have portable cameras that can inspect inside your pipes to see where the problem is. Our home was built 3 years ago and we had been having problems with our kitchen sink not draining unless we ran the garbage disposal. Upon inspection, it was discovered that our pipe was full of water. All other pipes in the the house and the clean out drain outside were clear. The technician snaked the drain 3 times and finally broke whatever was blocking loose. It was due to his diligence that we finally have a free flowing sink."

"The overflow pipe from the hot water heater runs into a drain pipe. This drain pipe developed a small leak. I was concerned that this indicated that I was developing a blockage in the sewer line to my septic tank. I called Ball Plumbing about 8:40am, and he said he would come between 11am and 1pm. I asked him to give me a heads-up call. He called about 10:20 and arrived about 10:40. He immediately pointed out that my drain pipe was not to code, because the water heater overflow pipe would be contaminated if the drain pipe ever backed up. There were a number of other overflow lines (e.g., from the furnace and water softener) that fed into this drain pipe and were also subject to contamination. He quoted me a price of $135 to assess the setup and determine if there was a blockage in the drain pipe. This estimate went up to $150 as he continued to visually assess the problem. I gave him the ok to start work. He determined that there was no blockage, and that the leak was due to one of the improperly connected lines that had cracked. Since he didn't have the correct size of overflow basin in his truck (the lines should drain vertically into the overflow basin with an air gap between the lines and the basin), he was going to have to go about nine miles to get the correct part. He quoted me a price of $250 (plus $21 tax) to do this repair. After he acquired the part, he repaired the drain in about half-an-hour."

"They came quickly and performed the work promptly even though this wasn't an emergency. They communicated clearly. The tank they used was a reliable brand. After starting, they came up against the problem that the stand for the new heater would stick out into the room more than the old one, and thus somewhat impede traffic. They worked with me to find an alternate solution that works better than the original heater placement. The tank and installation was on the high side, but within the typical price range listed on Home Depot's website."

"<p>Rick from A 1 Builders and Cindy from Adaptations Design Studio (an affiliate company) arrived at our house in Bellingham, WA in September 2014 to hear our proposal and provide their suggestions. Both Rick and Cindy were excellent listeners and they made valuable suggestions that showed their expertise in general construction and in aging-in-place environments. It was convenient and efficient that A 1 Builders and Adaptations Design Studio work together under the same roof so that communication between the designers and the builders could be enhanced. When we expressed an interest in working with them, our second meeting included Maggie, the designer that we would actually be working with, and Shawn who would manage the job. We walked them through our requests and we immediately established an excellent rapport with both of them. We found them both to be clear and sensitive to our needs, and it was a pleasure working with them from start to finish. Initially, they provided a "wild guess" proposal just to give us a pretty good idea of the costs for each item that we wanted to accomplish. This was a great approach as it allowed us to better prioritize the improvements so we could remain within our budget. We were introduced to each subcontractor onsite before the job began and we were able to provide a detailed description of our job in order to keep everyone on the same page. As we worked through the plan with A 1 and their subs, we found them to be extremely detailed which was a delightful contrast to other contractors we had worked with in the past. Their plan was to work together with us to make all design and construction decisions prior to any work commencing so that everyone entered the job with exactly the same expectations and with no surprises. This plan proved to be effective as the job began because nearly all plumbing fixtures, light fixtures and kitchen materials were brought onsite, and implementation was simplified due to their high degree of organization. We were ultimately provided with a detailed calendar of exactly when each piece of the job would be done and by whom, and we received a firm financial proposal which was in line with our expectations. The job progressed on schedule and the home was always treated with  respect from beginning to end. Billing was just as organized as the actual construction process, and we never encountered a hiccup or an unwanted surprise. We had the impression that this renovation was a bit more expensive than we may have encountered with another builder, but the quality of the work and the reliability of this contractor was such a high value that the price was justified. In the end, we were very happy to have worked with A 1 Builders and with Adaptations Design Studio. We would recommend them to anyone seeking a home renovation, and we would  choose them again in a heartbeat. </p> <br />"

"We have an old house - built in 1950. We love our home, but have only been here two years and are still learning what needs fixing and what is okay to leave a while. Well, we had a small water backup from a basement drain that the washer and basement sink drain into and it came up only a little bit (thankfully) but definitely needed to be looked at. Spectrum came right over that evening without even an appointment, they just stopped in after they put in a long day elsewhere and looked at the problem. The water had gone down, there was no immediate danger of flooding the basement, and I had their phone number incase it came back. <br /> We all were satisfied that it could wait a day, and instead of an emergency service, we scheduled a few days out and were able to be charged less (thanks guys!). During that next service where they snaked the drain way out 75 feet into the sewer, I asked Ben to look at our kitchen sink upstairs. We badly needed an improvement to the old sink there and Ben took measurements, discussed what we were looking for, and I was confident we were on the same page about what we wanted. <br /> Little did I realize how good Ben is at matching the right sink to the right location. Our sink now looks absolutely fabulous as he matched an ivory cast-iron Kohler sink to our tile backsplash perfectly. The estimate was right on cost, and Ben did the work without disrupting anything else. I really appreciate his professionalism and courteous manner. I would have Spectrum in our home anytime without worry. I work security for a living, and truly appreciate having quality workmen in my home. They deserve to be recognized. Spectrum does great work and you can trust them in your home, bottom line. <br />"

"Excellent. The project progressed smoothly over the course of a full day. Even so, our home was never without a water supply for more than short periods of time due to the well-thought out coordination of installation activities. Also, Matt worked with us to reduce the overall cost by allowing me to do some of the exterior digging and backfill associated with the new main shutoff valve. Admittedly, the cost was high but, in all fairness, we had a lot of work done. We felt the end cost was fair and pretty much as expected."

"Having the main sewer line from your house to the city line replaced can be pretty expensive and you want to have it done right. After having one business offer a very questionable and misleading quote, I took some advice from Best Rooters (another top notch business in Bellingham) and had Mike Peetoom and his crew come out and replace our line.  He did this over Christmas holiday, ran into some significant obstacles that he quickly and professionally resolved, did a great job patching up things afterwards and came in slightly under budget.  Mike was honest, forthcoming, hardworking and never once did I not understand what was going on.  Absolute professional and the only company I would recommend to anyone needing sewer repair, excavation, drainage, demolition or any of the services he provides.  I could not be happier! <br />"
