"Mike was great and seemed very knowledgeable. My house and property was significantly damaged by flooding and it is a big job. I didn't get a bid for the full scope of work from Mike and ultimately decided on a contractor that gave me a bid for everything and knew personally. I looked at pictures of Mike's cabinet work and was impressed. It was a tough decision and work has not yet begun because I'm waiting on insurance. Mike was very kind which I appreciated during such a stressful time. "

"Wes was amazing to work with. His products are top quality at a reasonable price. No wonder there are many home owners these days are working with him. He made it even better for us when he called me to let me know he can install the patio cover 2+ weeks ahead of our initial schedule. These made our weekend and the weeks that followed...Overall I would highly recommend working with Wes if anyone is thinking about putting a cover in their patio."

"This was a large, complicated project.  The house was originally built in 1947 and was added onto in 1952 and again in the 1960's.  It had been my family's home growing up and I bought it from my parents about 15 years ago when they were too old to take care of it.  Prior to beginning this project the house was classic 1960's/70's decor: Gold wall to wall carpet, dark wood paneling, white kitchen appliances, and baby blue fixtures in the bathrooms.  Ugh. <br /> There was also a separate project of removing an old shed on the hill behind the house and replacing it with a pole building.  I had hired another firm that specializes in pole buildings to do that part. <br /> Highline's work  involved a complete gut of the house, new roof, floors, deck, plumbing, electrical, and adding a patio in the back.  Nine months later, here I am with a fabulous new home - I can say without equivocation that working with Trevor and his crew from Highline was a fantastic experience.  All of them: Trevor, Josh, Ben, Jeff, Brandon, and Priscilla, were top <br /> notch, skilled and knowledgeable professionals. These guys really know what they are doing.  Trevor is an incredibly conscientious guy and went out of his way to check in and make certain that I was happy every step of <br /> the way.    In addition to the work of Trevor & crew, he brought in subs to do the roof, deck, plumbing, electrical, & custom glass for the bathrooms as well as a crew for the "dirt work"  They all did a great job and were a pleasure to work with. <br /> Were there problems? Sure, as can be expected with a project this complex, there were a few  surprises but he always had a plan to deal with them, and in one case where we had a miscommunication between us he volunteered to cover the cost of returning some materials without me even asking him to.    <br /> I know this review probably sounds unbelievably glowing, but it really was a great experience working with them.  I can recommend them unequivocally, and should the need arise I would hire them again in a second. <br /> <br />"

"It is not easy to live in a construction zone for 10 weeks. Work was done Tuesday to Friday 7:00-5:30. That  gave us a break from the commotion.  A wind and rain event created a problem, but they handled it with grace and efficiency. Their reputation with our city inspectors is great, and we passed easily in both the design permits and work inspections. <br />"

"I was a little nervous about ordering windows on the internet using measurements I'd taken myself, but I loved the design on the website so, initially I only ordered 2 windows to check the quality, my ability to measure accurately and the company's ability to build to my measurements. Jeff, the salesman I dealt with was attentive without being overwhelming and the first order was delivered in about 4 weeks. The windows were exactly what I was looking for and fitting them was a breeze. I followed up with another order for the remaining 13 windows in my porch and again, they arrived quickly, were of great quality, exactly to size and easy to fit. Looking forward to see how they last their first winter."

FAQs for sunroom or patio enclosure building service projects in Ferndale, WA

A sunroom is a fully enclosed space with walls of windows or glass. It allows you to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of the indoors, protected from bugs and weather. It functions as an additional room in your home. A covered patio extends your home's roof over an outdoor area, providing shade and shelter while remaining open to the fresh air. It's a great way to enjoy outdoor living while being protected from sun and rain.

Adding screens to your porch is the most budget-friendly way to enclose it. Screening keeps out insects and debris while letting you enjoy the breeze and outdoor ambiance. It's less expensive than installing full walls or glass enclosures and doesn't usually require permits, making it an efficient way to upgrade your porch.

If you're transforming your porch into a fully enclosed living space like a sunroom, you'll likely need a sturdy foundation, such as a reinforced concrete slab, to support the structure. For a simple screened-in porch, you might be able to use the existing floor and support posts without additional foundation work. It's best to consult a professional to determine what's needed for your project.

An enclosed porch can be considered a living space if it's fully enclosed with solid walls and windows, has a proper roof, and includes heating and cooling systems. It should also have direct access from inside your home. When these criteria are met, the space becomes an extension of your home's livable area.
