"The good experience with Raindrop started with the estimate; Lee was knowedgeable and up front with me about the need to fix my chimney before they could do the roof work; neither of the other roofing contractors had mentioned that. When I accepted their bid, but the work couldn't start for over a month, they held the original price even though the cost of materials had just gone up. When they came to do the work, they were courteous and always willing to answer any questions I had about the process. And Ryan, the owner, is a real sweetheart; he came by at the end to check and make sure I was satisfied, which I definitely was. I've already recommended them privately to 2 friends who are ready to redo their own roofs."

"Jose J Bayardo Roofing, has performed roofing services for me over 10 years and has never disappointed. Jose and his excellent crew are always courteous and professional. His eye for detail and punctuality set him apart from the rest and in addition I have always felt he charges a fair price for a days work. I highly recommend Jose J Bayardo Roofing, for your roofing or any related handyman needs."

"Workers were very polite and efficient. They cleaned up after themselves and were tidy the 3 1/2 days on site. Rich Dunne was very responsive when issues arose and made accommodations when requested. We decided at the last minute to replace our roof windows. Didn't even get a quote before-hand - we were that comfortable we were not going to be gouged. And we weren't. I carefully reviewed work as it was performed and found it to be truly quality work. By the way - we had many estimates but Rich was the one we chose because there was no guesswork. No speculation. Worst case scenario price was provided. Given the horrible condition our roof was in, that was comforting. I highly recommend this company.

"Carlos couldn't have been better.  The roof is very steep and not visible from the ground.  We haven't had anything done to it in its 9 year life so we wanted the roof inspected and appropriate repairs made.  Carlos gave me a call when he was on the way.  He checked the roof and found no problems, but did give me some information about roof treatments (they don't do spray treatments.)  He also checked the gutters (they also do gutter cleaning) at my request, but the foam inserts were fine and nothing needed to be done.  AND he refused payment for his time as he considered this to be an estimate.  We will definitely us Roof Rx when we do have a roof or gutter problem!

"Excellent experience with our roof replacement from beginning to end. Our sales rep Lee was extremely personable, spent a lot of time ensuring we had details upfront, and was on par with his follow up. The crew that put roof on was on time every day, very interactive and educational at every step, and worked tirelessly despite the heat. Everything was cleaned up and hauled away after completion. I only gave price a B as we did not go with the cheapest, but the high quality is well worth the cost."

"Salvador arrived when he said he would, stayed for a few hours. He showed us what he was doing and took the time to explain the results and what our options are to improve the insulation in our house. We received a quote in the mail a few days later, which covered everything we had talked about, broken down in pieces (attic, basement, exterior walls) in case we can't do it all at once. I also spoke to Rob one phone and he was very willing to work with us on what we will do ourselves. Great experience overall. We have already hired them to insulate the attic."

"The first man that gave us an estimate (West Coast Roofers) said that both roofing material and the plywood under the flat roof that overhangs our deck needed replacement because of rotting of the plywood. He also said that our main roof would need to be redone soon. And he would do it right the first time. This was a surprise because our current roof is certified as a 30-years roof and is only 15 years old now. Victor Bailey (Bailey &Sons Roofing) checked everything carefully and was amazed the house roof was 15 years old it was in such excellent shape, and all we needed now was the flashing installed on the lower edge of the flat overhang over the deck. West Coast Roofers' estimate was $3500, and Bailey and Sons Roofing was $295. We were very happy with Bailey's expertise and explanation of what was needed and the carefulness he took in doing the job. What a savings for us. We will certainly recommend him to others, and when we need a new roof we will contact Bailey & Sons Roofing."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Forest Grove, OR

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
