"Awesome 🤩 was/is James Nelson, Design Specialist with American Waterworks, out of the Fargo, ND office was absolutely wonderful to work with. (Really this Company has impressed us from the beginning!) always quick to respond and very patient…. There was zero pressure …. no pushy sales tactics at all — just good information, very clear explanations, and genuine care. He took the time to answer questions, explain good options, and made us feel comfortable and valued as people, not just potential customers. From the very beginning, And even now after James has been yet kind and incredibly understanding of our situation. Unfortunately We are not able to move forward with our basement project at this time, and James has showed nothing but grace and respect about that. No doubt that James is a true professional and a rare find these days. We absolutely 💯 Highly, highly recommend James and American Waterworks And Solutions… We thank you!!"

"Andrew is top notch in my book, and I am so very glad that I hired him. I was told by another professional a long time ago that I needed two suction points since I had two cement slabs, and Andrew assured me that it typically is not needed, and if it is for some odd reason it won't cost me anything more than what his original quote was. All questions answered with confidence. I was notified when he would arrive on the day that was agreed. The suction point was discussed and ultimately my own locations he selected without argument he worked with me and suggested area's that would work out. He assured me that if the levels of radon are not below 2 then he would come out again to modify the size of the fan and or add another suction point. when he started working once the suction location was agreed upon, work went very fast with his assistant outside and Andrew in the basement holes drilled suction tubing installed and vented exactly where I wanted it. Outstanding job Andrew!!!! "

"I just recently had a duct cleaning done by a reputable company after moving into another home. The time and manner in which they performed the service was well beyond what I had experienced with Top Dog. So, that is why this complaint is being filed after more than 1 yr. Top Dog advertised (and still do) $99 for 10 ducts and $15 for each additional duct. Also, they said there would be an additional nominal charge for being outside of their normal area. My home had 14 ducts, so the service charge should have been $159; however, they charged $400 plus $30 tax. In addition for the exorbitant bill, only one guy was there for 1 hr, failed to clean several of the ducts, and instead of using a large vacuum hose placed at the furnace plenum and compressed air via the vents, they only used a small brush ad vacuum hose via the vents. Clearly, I received unsatisfactory service (now that I know how it should be done) and was grossly overcharged. Its outrageous that Top Dog has an A+ rating with the BBB. I would never recommend their service and disgusted that they are still in operation."

"Horrible communication. Delayed work for months which cost us a lot of money. Brandon and Detailed by Design are not upfront about costs and their ability to complete projects on time. We met with the owner Brandon to address all the issues and finally agreed to a resolution which would have still been a loss to us however he reneged at the last minute and did not pay to replace the old furnace he tried to pass off as new. If you choose to use this business, check all receipts on "new" appliances they say they installed. We reported this business to the Department of Labor because of the shoddy work in installing the furnace and because the furnace was old when we paid for a new furnace. The dept of labor confirmed they were not licensed to install the furnace. We paid for a new furnace ourselves and a licensed contractor to install it. Overall a lot of issues and an absolute nightmare. We are still working on recouping some of our costs from this business."

"Our experience with Nic at Arko was top notch. He was personable, friendly and listened to what we wanted to have completed on our project. Throughout the project, he communicated well and often. Overall, we are satisfied with the final outcome of our roof being redone. The 5 stars is for Nic, I wish I could rate different aspects of our experience differently. For the crew, I'd probably give 2 to 3 stars. They laid tarps out around our house and garage, however it was windy that day and they didn't weigh them down, so they blew around and a lot of tear-off material ended up in our landscaping rock, which goes all around the house. We picked up over 200 nails when they were all done with their cleanup, which included using a leaf blower to blow off patio and driveway and blew the nails and slate into the rock, which pretty much buried the nails in the rocks since the rocks were blown around as well. When we called Nic about this, he sent Wyatt to come out with a magnet and was very thorough in the grass areas around house and found quite a few more nails. He was also very polite and friendly. In the past months since the work has been completed, we are still finding random nails and I'm sure we will find more over the years as the rocks shift. Another issue we had was when the crew was loading the shingle packs onto the roof, they were dropping them from waist level, rather then bending and setting them down. I understand they are heavy, but we now have squeaks in our house where we didn't before. It shook and rattled the house like they were going to come through the roof. We brought our concerns to Nic and he was going to relay them to the correct people. I hope its been addressed and future customers won't have the same problems. A few days after roof was done, we had a very hard rain with wind. There was some water in our garage by our furnace. Nic came out the same day and spent a large amount of time trying to figure out where it had come from. He was very thorough and took lots of pictures, went in attic of garage and on the roof. We determined it was from the wind blowing the rain sideways and through the exhaust pipe. It hasn't happened since so I am comfortable with that determination."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Forest Lake, MN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
