"I called for an estimate on a shingle tear off and metal roof install. Dawn was prompt at providing the estimate and Eric was thorough in explaining each step of the job, and the difference between metal types. The crews on all 3 days were respectful and fast. Glad we went with standing seam, it looks better for a home. Overall, everyone was efficient, informed, and honest workers. I recommend them to anyone who needs roofing work."

"Do NOT use these rip off artists! They charged us almost 20 THOUSAND for a new roof about a month after Ian only because our Insurance Company said ours was too old. Their hurricane chasing subcontractors replaced most of the plywood sheets, I saw the old ones in their dumpster, some of them still looked ok to me. When you put large sheets of plywood on a roof, you have to use "H-CLIPS" between the sheets of plywood or they will warp. Well, these idiots didn't use H-clips so our roof now looks like a waffle. Started dealing with Jason a few months ago, he came out, looked at the absolute horrible job, stood right in front of my wife & I & said "they really screwed up on this job"! Then he said "I will get new shingles ordered & we will redo the roof". Well, about a month ago, they tried to crawl under the roof & put 2x4's underneath to try to fix the warped plywood, didn't work, of course. About a week ago, they spent 2 days trying to redo a couple of areas & it looks worse than before. They could "redo:" our roof THREE times for what they charged us & still not lose money. So, DO worry if you hire Curry :("

"I had goode brothers install gutters on 2 houses as there prices were good and they offer a 20 year warranty. I had a issue with the installation on one of the houses because they didn't install enough downspouts so water would run into my house in heavy downpours. I called and finally they agreed to send a worker out to fix the problem but unfortunately he forgot to bring any material, but promised he would be back. He never showed up and after repeated phone calls and messages I had to have another company come re-pitch the gutters and add downspout"

"If you want to replace your roof every 6-7 years, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Their workmanship warranty is only 5 years. Had constant leaks since day 1. Multiple nails just started rusting just past their 5 year workmanship warranty. The nails were not visible on the shingle before they started to rust. Found over 30 improperly installed nails so far and still counting. Contacted the company, supposedly was scheduled and they were a no call no show. Contacted them back and then was told they would charge for a crew to inspect the roof. Asked to speak to a manager, my information was provided and never received a call back."

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Fort Myers Beach, FL

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
