"Rich Johnson and Josh, handymen with Handyman Near Me, were of such a big help to me in preparing my kitchen floor for a new stove that it's almost impossible to describe the relief they brought me. Rich also went above and beyond the call of duty by sealing up an outside vent to prevent critters from coming thru a no longer needed air vent and even went to Lowe's with me to see details of the new stove so he could better understand exactly what I was asking him to do. What a guy! Professional, friendly, knowledgeable and definitely a Keeper! Don't settle for less, ask for the best. You won't regret it."

"After 20 years of multiple home remodels in two states, we have never written a negative review for anyone. We decided to make an exception for IronWood. My wife and I selected IronWood for a small staircase railing remodel in our home. Juan Rodriguez responded immediately and came right out. We were sold on his pitch of IronWoodâ s quality, years of expertise, and turnkey service. We approved the quote of $6,850, paid a 50% deposit, and provided a detailed sketch of what we wanted. We asked if they would provide us CAD drawings, a typical process for anything custom-fabricated, and he informed us they only do drawings for new-build homes and not remodels. Fabrication would go off our drawings. Thankfully, I am an industrial designer so that was no issue for me to supply sketches with enough detail to build from. Or so I thought. Quality of finish â Straight unacceptable To be clear, our expectation is not perfection, but we would like something on par with price and of professional standards. IronWood has a â wing itâ , â close enoughâ mindset about fit and finish. Not only was the design we submitted not followed, simple measurements were wrongâ ¦ like consistent spacing of welded spindles. Gaps were so bad they had to break welds, reposition, and cut new holes in our brand NEW wood treads just so they looked more consistent. Then they never filled the holes at the floor from the old spindles which remain the most unattractive part (seen in photos). As well as the tread stain which clearly doesn't match in color or sheen. Communication â Below professional standards Communication between sales guy, office coordinator, and skilled trades were inconsistent and resulted in confusion and wasted time. Juan never returned to our home to inspect the quality issues with his trades. If your project goes as ours did, youâ ll be project managing it by yourself. Transparency â Nonexistent If you have any issues, good luck contacting someone within IronWood to complain. Juan flat out refused to tell us who his manager is or have them call us about the issues we experienced. Responsibility - Lacking After Ironwood attempted a â fixâ (yesâ ¦ these photos were taken after their â fixâ ), we asked another contractor to quote finishing the project to the point of acceptability. The team at Mosian, who has 40 years of award-winning remodeling experience, was shocked by what we were left with. Their quote was $970 to fix all the issues left by IronWood. Today: Pay us, or else! After all the emails, time wasted (project sitting uncomplete at day 45), and nearly a grand still needed to finish, we felt IronWood should deduct the $970 off our balance. Instead, they offered us $500 and threatened credit action if we didnâ t pay the rest. My wife and I know what to look for, and what to expect, as a finished product from home improvement trades, but with IronWood, BUYER BEWARE."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Fort Worth, TX

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
