"When my son tested positive for lead I was obviously very anxious to get my home tested. I reached out to my local Department of Health for guidance and they told me to make sure that whomever does the testing be EPA certified and use XRF, which is why I chose Lead and Mold Detectives. They got back to my request for an estimate in record time and made an appointment for me for the following week. Tested the entire house using XRF and kept me in the loop throughout the process. Very happy with their work and would use them again in the future."

"They were very professional. We had them test for lead in a multiple dwelling building. They were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the very confusing local laws of NYS, and the nuances of how we have to deal with the issues. They were on time, very thorough with their work, (very friendly, which counts), and seemed to very much care about the quality of their work. They were fair and reasonable with their rates."

"From the initial scheduling call to receiving the final report, the service from Lead Free Environmental was impeccable. Their inspector, Waqas Akram was extremely professional and took the time to explain exactly how the XRF testing worked, minimizing any disruption to our home. They were thorough, punctual, and, most importantly, provided a clear, easy-to-understand report that finally gave us the peace of mind we needed for our young children. Highly recommend for anyone concerned about an older home. "

"Angstrom Testing used a moisture meter and found that one of the kitchen walls and an area of the kitchen ceiling in my mom's apartment were wet. Then they took an air sample in the kitchen and sent the sample to the lab to determine the level of mold in the air. After that, they made a cut into the wet area of the kitchen ceiling and found a dripping water pipe. The top side of the ceiling was black with mold. They also took a piece of sheetrock out of the top of the wet kitchen wall and found more mold on the back of the wall (yuck!!). <br /> They called me two days later with the air test results, and they told me that the level of mold in the air was very high. They also told me that there was probably a connection between my mom's symptoms and high levels of mold in the air. Makes sense. They also told me that that my mom should stay upstairs with me and my husband until we get rid of the moldy ceiling and wall in her apartment. <br /> A few days after they called, Angstrom emailed me a report with all of the details of what they did and found. In the report, they wrote recommendations and procedures that a mold removal contractor should follow to safely remove the mold and dry and treat the wood wall frames and wood ceiling. Since the level of mold in the air was so high, they said in their report that the kitchen air should be cleaned with an air cleaner and that the kitchen appliances, cabinets, and floor should be wiped down to get rid of all the mold spores that were laying around. <br /> I really appreciated all the work they did and all of the advice that they gave me to help me and my mom. My mom is now living upstairs with me and my husband, and she says that she is already starting to feel better. Although my husband is not too happy (LOL). Great company! Thanks. <br />"
Ground water infiltration occurred through the concrete slab in two rooms on the ground floor of the house causing water damage and mold growth on the overlying flooring. The cause of the water infiltration appears to be associated with cracks and a crater in the concrete slab, which is believed to have been caused by pile driving work being performed during the construction of an adjacent building.
Mold in HVAC Coil Compartment
Construction/demolition work in an apartment unavoidably released high levels of dust that migrated into adjacent apartments. Dust containment methods, such as negative air filtration and poly sheeting, should have been used to prevent dust migration into adjoining spaces. Settled dust samples were collected from a table & curtain rod in a nearby apt, which revealed the presence of substantially elevated levels of silica and asbestos in the dust. Asbestos and silica are known carcinogens.

"The rep came out and reviewed the areas of concern.  He gave me an estimate on the spot. The next day I decided to go with JBH and the project was scheduled for the following week.  The workers arrived within the scheduled time period and they were very pleasant to work with. They were responsive, efficient and neat. The job was completed in no time. <br />"

"BP Alliance was very professional and insightful in doing what was required by the city in a lead abatement. Mr. Booker answered questions and concerns in ways I could understand a support. Having a personal meeting with all the major parties allowed for a smooth preparation, abatement and re-entry into the space. All the inspections, test and follow through with the city were arranged and done in a timely fashion."

"We are very satisfied with Hamalia Restoration Corporation! We needed to re-point the bricks on our front porch and concrete a portion of our driveway. Sandar Majid was a true professional - he gave us clear written estimate, which he followed precisely. He listen to our needs, gave very good suggestions and did an excellent job! We will definitely keep Majid in mind for all our other projects! Highly recommend!"

"Art was wonderful. I usually don't use reviews but felt compelled to leave one in this instance. He responded quickly to my inquiry about lead inspection services and costs, quoted me a price that was significantly less than that quoted by a competitor, and sent the results and full report to me within a day or two of inspection. All throughout the process he was incredibly responsive and professional. I highly recommend him!"

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Franklin Square, NY

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
