"I got an initial email that they would schedule with me soon. After 11 days, I emailed to ask if they had done the treatment. It apparently occurred a few days after that. I wasn't home when they came. I still don't know if they came for the 2nd treatment. Not enough communication. The grass does look better than usual though."

My experience with Mark's landscaping was extremely positive.  I've used them a few times now and each time has gone well. I contacted Mark and had an appointment for an estimate around a week later.  At the estimate I detailed the job and Mark took notes and offered some ideas.  I really wanted a low maintenance landscaping solution that would look nice year round. I insisted that the plants not be fast growing and that they not attract bees.  WIthin a few days Mark emailed me the estimate, we made some changes, and then scheduled the work for a few weeks later.  
Job Description
1.) For this job they had to uproot many shrubs and their roots and then create new beds.  A garden wall made of stones from EP Henry were installed over two days.  Mark is guaranteeing this part of the job for 3 years.  Commercial weed fabric was then installed and the new plants were planted.  The plants he chose look great and should be in bloom for much of the year.  I have not seen a bee go near them yet!  Delaware river rock was then installed in the new bed.  
2.) The playset mulch had deteriorated and needing replacing.  We decided to go with playground quality rubber mulch.  Mark guaranteed 4" of rubber mulch & underestimated the amount of material required.  Rather than insisting that I pay the full amount for the additional mulch, he only charged me 50% of his cost for the additional material.  There are a few areas still below the 4", but overall it is very good.  My children love the mulch because of the "bounce."  We love it because of the added safety.
3.) In the back of our house we had some decorative rock installed around the foundations.

Summary:
Here's why you should use Mark.  His crew is experienced and does high quality work and his prices are fair.  As with any job there will be surprises that come up and I found Mark's approach to resolving these surprises to be reasonable and fair.  Mark cares about his reputation and wants to have satisfied customers.  I've used many contractors, including landscapers, over the years and I believe Mark's Landscaping to be near the top.  I highly recommmend them and would use them without hesitation in the future.

"Things were going quite well until I inquired about bagging excess grass that lay on the lawn and flower beds after the job was done. I was then told that it would cost an extra $3.00 weekly to bag grass. I decided to rake up the excess instead (saving money for me). I thought the grass was being cut too low; therefore,  I then inquired about mower blade height and was told it would cost an extra $4.98 weekly to raise or lower the blade. I have been a homeowner for longer than the provider is old, have had several lawn companies attend my lawns and have never, ever, heard of such a thing....from any company.
The provider simply wrote, "If I did not charge every customer the labor to change blades or lower, or raise them I would be loosing every job. If I did not charge to bag I will be loosing with dump fees labor fees. Eventually it will add up. Please understand ." He said it would take an extra 10 minutes to adjust blades. The county waste dump is within 5 miles.
Needless to say, his services were terminated.  What started out as a $25 weekly fee would have increased to $31.92 weekly and $131.92 monthly  instead of $100 monthly per 4 weeks  had I accepted the provider's proposal.
 Mind you, clipping hedges and general lawn work was not included....just mowing. Oh, after the family mulched the flower beds, the provider's crew blew grass clippings in the beds atop the mulch. Yes, I did mention this to the provider and the blowing continued. I was simply  not satisfied. Perhaps someone else might like the additions, but not us. My neighbor, I think, uses their services and might be satisfied. I did not inquire.

"My trees were in great need of care after having been neglected for quite a while.  The team was late getting to our house but they performed excellent work.  They left the area relatively clean considering they cut branches out of every single tree.  We also had a dead tree removed and two stumps ground.  The only concern I have is that I called after the service to ask why they had not applied any protective coating to the larger branches that had been cut off.  They returned the call and my sister answered the phone while babysitting my kids.  They tried to explain to my sister why the product had been applied to the tree and she told them that they would have to call back and speak with me.  I called back that afternoon and explained in a voice mail that the issue was not that they had used the coating, the issue was that they had not used it.  I tried calling twice more to speak with someone and my calls were not returned.  Hopefully my trees are not harmed from insects or disease considering there are so many open wounds.
